K&N Typhoon vs Revi Intake dynoed today

Today we had a huge rx-8/rx-7 dyno in Ontario and we had an rx-8 with nothing but a Typhoon(Dan, not sure of Screenname) and one with only a Revi(Hellbreed). Guess who did better, I would have thought the Revi, and he had the highest dyno at 175 wrhp until Dan went with his typhoon and pulled out 186 the first time and then 189 rwhp the second time :o . I'm sure they'll post their dyno slips soon.

can't determine much from this because you haven't told us what they dyno'd at before the intake! Rx8's differ so much that the revi intake could have still produced a greater gain. The difference is more imporant than the actual number.

It would have been better if they tested it on the same car. Before install and after, like the previous poster mentioned.

Hood?

Was the hood open for the dyno runs?

It makes a big difference, the K&N has almost zero restriction, and makes lots of oomph when it gets cold air....with the hood SHUT, it never sees cool air, the Revi goes the extra step to suck from the cold side of the rad.

Short rams always dyno higher then cold air intakes. Its easy to cheat when you've got a giant fan blowing air into your intake. =/

The other thing that would be useful to see is the actual curve. Peak horsepower doesn't mean a whole lot if you lose power through the meat of the rev range. Although, both intakes' gains will probably affect primarily the upper range.

How about the NOISE LEVEL?? It is my understanding with the typhoon system they can hear you for miles "buzzing" down the highway...especially in the higher rpm's. Of course if you do not care about the noise level...what the hey! Did you say something??

it doesnt buzz, it sort of hisses and sucks..... sort of sounds like darth vader got stuck breathing in. i've been toying with the idea of building an airbox around the K&N to see what kind of difference in performance it makes. problem is, i dont have a dyno nearby.

I had a Typhoon, but swapped it out for a REVi. The Typhoon is L O U D...just about melted my ears. Maybe good for racing, but not street.

(my 2 bit's worth)

motorsport offers something like the revi which is shielded and also sucks air from outside the hood but is about $500 what do you think email me at mauricio07047@yahoo.com

Some stock RX8's dyno at 190+ whp, some at 170 whp, unfortunately, unless you test the 2 units on the same car not much info is to be gained.

Mine is loud as hell but not annoying. It's a truly awesome sound at 9k.
