Lightened Rotor Assembly From Raceing Beat
#27
I could've sworn we talked about lightweight rotors a long time ago. Oh those were the days. Now I can't mouth off since I forgot everything I wrote here this summer, and I didn't learn anything I can use last semester.

ah light weight rotors...won't sell in america...liek 70% of american's are overweight...so why woudl they want a constant reminder oh how far they've fallen by getting lighter rotors:p
(hehe how was that shelleye_man_06 i used "lightweight rotors" twice in that post...well three times counting this question?)

Another question--is there any reason (other than cost) for Mazda to be using cast iron for the "irons" in the renesis? I assume older rotaries are the same, can you get cast aluminum replacements for them? How much weight would that drop?

The old 1.3L 13b-REW 2-Rotor weighed more than an LS1 5.7L V8 (we got good balance though cuz it was mounted low and rearward) - anyways
The new Renesis has taken 19lbs of boost on stock internals - if you were to replace these with aluminum bits you'd save weight, but you'd lose a lot of durability.
Its the same argument I have time and again, especially with the people in the wheels/tires forum - do a cost benefit analysis - sure you can lighten the rotors and get a decent gain out, but for the same price you can keep the strong iron internals and boost the **** out of the engine, and you'll make WAY more power (my argument with the wheels/tires guys is to buy a set of rims that weigh as much as stock and use the savings for go-fast bits that will more result in a far faster car than if that money were spent on super-expensive lightweight rims).
