Logical to do Clutch at the same time as Flywheel... QUESTION
Hi all,
My personal plan for my RX8 is to be boosted within 6 months... mainly due to saving up the money and to wait for the 1st batch of "new" FI kits to come out and run thru the wringer... (Petit, PTP, Axial Flow) etc etc. And in the meantime I want to get the rest of my car up to snuff so once FI is installed I should be "done" with major mods for a while (heh)
I've settled on upgrading to a racing beat flywheel and I've read that while you have the tranny dropped it makes more sense to go ahead and upgrade your clutch to save on the huge labor costs this will incur (cant do it myself sorry)
The clutch im looking at is the ACT Prolite Street/Strip clutch, my actual question is: with the stock clutch I know that doing a 8,000 RPM clutch dump is a big no-no, with this particular clutch would you be able to make harder launches then the normal 4000-5000 "regular" launch? I'm not looking to abuse my car but just curious oh what type of things that were "no-nos" become "okay" with a heavy duty upgraded cluch.
Thanks!
Jeff

You should absolutely get the clutch out of the way if you're going FI. As far as "no-nos", your new clutch may be able to take more slipping and high rpm abuse, but the tranny will still be aborbing much more stress with FI.

The ACT ZM8-HD00 clutch kit is rated to handle 330 pounds of torque and 9,500 rpm's (about 445+ h.p.). That is way more capacity than most of us will ever need. The Xtreme Duty clutch, which I have, is a bear to drive daily and I wish I had gotten the street clutch. The Xtreme is rated for 443 lbs./9,500 (about 665 h.p.) and is clearly overkill. BTW, I have been lining up at 5K rpm's and by the time the clutch engages I am actually launching at 7,500 rpm's, nitrous and all, and have never had any trouble with the clutch or transmission. Just let the clutch out quick and don't "sidestep" the pedal.
