Looking for a cooler running RX-8?
Looking for a cooler Running RX-8? After extensive testing Mazsport is proud to release our "Cooling Fan Control Kit." We believe this is the single most effective modification you can make to lower the operating temperature of your RX-8.
This plug and play kit is designed to be installed by the novice mechanic with basic hand tools in less than 30 minutes. By altering the temperatures at which the factory cooling fans are turned on and off significant reductions in engine temperature have been made. and the product works...
running na in fla..... i am running 10 to 15deg cooler than before.....
i have to beat it up to get it up in to the 190deg range..... and yes this is with outside temps of 94 deg...

My Rx8 was one of the "testing" vehicles. I've had this product installed for about a week now. Here's a summary of my before and after temps with a 90deg ambient.
Idling/traffic: Before 200-210 After 170
Hard acceleration 1st-3rd gear: Before 210 After 185-190
High speed Cruising: 170 Before and After
I have an aftermarket radiator, I've tried water wetter and tried running a 60/40 water coolant mix in the summer. This mod made far more difference then any of my previous mods.
Rotaries definitely run much stronger when cool. I noticed a significant increase in power when taking off after sitting at a light after installing this mod. Besides the increased power, this mod is great for reliability. As we've all seen, heat and rotaries don't agree very well.
IMO any mod you can do to lower temps in a rotary, whether oil, coolant or air, is worth doing.

This is pretty interesting, I wonder why it's set to run so hot by the factory?
Scott, if you really want to develop something awesome, how about something that makes the A/C compressor stay engaged, for those of us who have the infamous cycling issue. Hell, you can actually hear the compressor kick on/off if you listen closely enough at moderate speeds, and then feel the burst of cool air shortly afterwards. There was that recall for the electronic do-dad that controls the a/c clutch, but it didn't do much of anything. You take your car in, they go through the steps to fix it, and nothing changes. I can't help but wonder if this isn't a deliberate move by Mazda, keeping a compressor clutch engaged shouldn't be rocket science I don't imagine.

Is this mod only necessary in hotter climates ?
Never gets much over 30 deg C here & most days are below 25 deg C .
Also : i've never seen my temp guauge deviate from just left of centre - what happens with you guys in hot climates ?

the temp gauge on your dash is almost a hot or not hot gauge...
right now in the cool of the night it is 23c... you need a scan tool to read the temps.... mine used to go from ~180 to 205 on a na car...
now i have to beat the crap out of it to get it to 190...

I have this mod and it really makes a difference during the summer heat in Florida. My 8 doesnt feel it is struggling anymore after a long day out running errands or autocross. The fan doesnt stay on as long either....
