Its a little hard to find laws for every state on nitrous without really digging into the books, but I am just going off multiple sites with this story. http://www.bangshift.com/blog/Missis...reet-Cars.html
So yes, indeed people are talking out of their asses today.
Why don't you see a legitimate reason? Nitrous gives you more power when u need it ... examples: Passing, Passing with a trailer, many of the Pick up truck that plow snow use it. Mmmm kind of sounds like many of the same applications you would call on boost.
What in your mind makes it not suitable for the street or worthy of being legal?
It's a simple power adder, the same as a turbo or supercharger or buying a bigger engine, and NOS is likely the one that gives you the least amount at that.

If someone has an actual legitimate reason for using it like if snow plows actually do use it then sure, why not let them.
I just don't see why bob in his honda civic needs a nos bottle hooked up driving around the streets. You dont *have* to pass people on the road, and if they are going 55 in a 65 its not very hard to pass them going even the speed limit or 5 over. Also I really doubt anyone has ever actually used nos to pass someone on the highway and if they did they should have their car taken away lol.
I never said it should not be legal at all, if people want to take it to the track and use it there then I am all for it. Its just my opinion on it, not like I am writing the laws or anything. Also I am not saying he should or shot not do it, its his own choice.

So it's ok for Bob it put a turbo kit on his car?
You never wished you had more power to pass on a 2 lane highway that tractor trailer and slow poke car behind it that won't pass the tractor trailer. Both of which are doing less than the speed limit on the flats and even less going up a hill?
Oh that's right you're probably the slow poke behind the tractor trailer, you must have an Automatic RX8. LuLz

You pick one state out of 50 and say they allow it, and go by that to say I am wrong? Top notch deduction there, when I never said all states have laws for it, by me saying most that would mean that some don't.

I didn't pick one state out of 50 just to prove my point, I picked the state I live in. I could care less what the laws are in other states. But maybe if I get time later I will go state by state just to prove your wrong.
I just left a message for the Nevada Department of Public Safety Public Information Officer requesting information on Nitrous use from my Legal search there does not appear to be any laws regarding nitrous use in vehicles in the State of Nevada. Two down 48 to go.

I'mma firin' mah lazor!!!
Ignorance in full effect here. Don't give me that "a pressurized bottle is dangerous" crap when you roll around with 10 gallons of some of the most combustible liquid/vapors known to mankind strapped to the bottom of your car. Also, in my previous cars with a nitrous system, I used them quite frequently for passing. It's really handy if you live in the country and need to pass in a passing zone.
Nitrous laws should be no different than adding forced induction. I prefer nitrous, because the 1% of the time I drive like an *******, its in a situation where I'd like to have more power. When not in use, disarm the system. Simple.

I was just thinking (and you could never really now this) what the ratio of people is driving around with propane tanks vs nitrous tanks.
(All those old trailers, and pickup truck conversions, those huge RV's and refill trips, going to a family picnic, etc)
Better yet ... people transporting compressed gas incorrectly vs transportation of compressed gas correctly.
Then what types of gases they are?

We have old delivery trucks that have dual propane tanks and some of the vans have natural gas conversions.
wcs is right.
What's the big dealeeo?
I would like to inject N2O but I live in Ontario. I cross the border weekly too, Canadian Customs would pull it all out right there and take it.
I know, I asked.

lol after some reading i found that 11 states its legal use use on the road as long as your not breaking any other laws. Most allow it to be in car as long as bottle is closed and line is unhooked for track use.
Now lets everyone drive a 1000hp supra or vette or have some propane desil that runs 10s and have some legal fun

Why is it that the nitrous thread are the most filled with ignorance and mis-imformation? If you don't know WTF you are talking about, shut up.
Nitrous is no more harmful or dangerous than any other power adder when used in an intelligent and safe manor.
Bumblebee, you may want to make sure that your are checking the most updated laws, as I know some states, like KY, made it illegal for a brief time and then changed the laws very shortly after that.
Most states that I have looked at for my travels don't have any current restrictions in nitrous use or hook up. I don't travel through VA tho, I would guess that they have restrictions, they restrict everything else...
