made my own air duct from stock.

Well i got bored today and decided to open some stuff up. I opened up the bumper and saw this hose from the intake goes into a corner where it gets absolutely no air from. So basically I bent it down to the grill. Where it can suck in cold air from. Cheap way to do it. Lol I actually hear a difference in the sound a little. I'll post a video of it soon. Pretty interesting.

it's the vfad. If you look closer, you'll see it has a vacuum tube that bypasses the tube when you're over 5k rpm or so. Thus if you routed the hose down under, it will still be bypassed when you open it up.

pretty much. First thing to do is rip out the vfad and plug up the vacuum tube at the right side of the intake manifold.

The racing beat ram air duct is pretty nice for only $120. Some people use dryer hoses and crap from home depot, but that's ghetto.

Im still a little bit confused. Which one is the vfad. which is the vacuum tube? and how do i do this? And is the rb air duct worth it? Does it change alot? And is it better than the AEM Cold air intake?

The -vfad- is the complete setup - variable fresh air duct.

Based on rpm the flap will open directing the air directly into the intake, all it is is noise abatement for lower rpm cruising.

As for changing your air intake completely.. some people will swear by it.. but the air intake on the rx8 is NOT a point of restriction. The only thing you will gain by replacing your intake with a AEM or any other "cold air" intake is sound and perhaps a few ponies in the upper rpm range (minimal). The RB duct is a good buy because it will channel cooler air into the stock intake and that can not be bad.

The tube assembly directly behind your front bumper is the VFAD (L shaped).

You changed nothing.
