Well I just got my Magnaflow exhaust put on today while my car was in at Mazda for the oil change and all that good stuff. Wow, what a sound! I have a little story for you guys....

So today while at Mazda, the first thing they do to my car was put on the exhaust. I am watching because I am a curious guy and want to see whats going on. As soon as they fire up the car, and rev the engine a few times, I swear there were about 7 tech guys standing by my car, all with smirks and huge smiles on their faces. So they see me standing at the window watching what was going on and they signal me to come down and take a look and hear what it sounds like up close. That **** was **** man! I havent heard an exhaust sound like that in along time. After we were done playing around, all the guys congratulated me on a fine purchase and they all loved the sound and told me to come back when the exhaust is broken in to hear the more mellow sound it will give off. I swear, driving home from my gf's house tonight, felt like I was an F1 driver, thats how good it sounded to my ears!

All in all I was alittle skeptical at first, but I am very happy with myself that I went along with it and had it put on. The tips are huge and it gives the back end a hole new dimension (sp) and look! Magnaflow makes an outstanding product and I am very pleased I went with them and spent alittle extra for what I wanted!

I recommend this exhaust hands down!

lol yes... its TERRIBLE to rev a 9k engine..? any type of performance from your butt dyno? i just orderd the borla exhaust... off rx7store.net.. ive been bit by the mod bug.. im about to purchase the mazda flywheel.. as i hear it has huge benifical Gains from it!

If it's cold it may be slightly detrimental, especially under load.

...the only thing I think I heard on the 8 dvd that closely says dont rev...is after you do the de-flooding procedure...you shouldn't rev high.

Congrats on the magnaflow. I am about to but the magnaflow also. But I have a question for you. How is the sound of the exhaust inside the car. Is it overly obnoxious? Or is it mild? Would you be able to take a soundclip on the inside of the car?Thanks for any info.

I also have a magnaflow, during the install I felt the same way, I just didn't know how much of a diffrance it would be. I was scared that once I put it out I wouldent hear that much of a diffrance, but when I rev. my car DAMN!!!!

I love the sound of it in the car. It has a beautiful mellow tone inside the cabin and I cant wait for it to get broken in so it will sound even better. I notice alittle bit of more giddy up in the higher RPMs from my butt dyno, but I swear, like what I had said before, those stock exhaust tips made the back look alright, but with the new magnaflow, adds a whole new meaner look. And plus the sound compliments it very very well. You will be very pleased when you install it. It feels like I am a Formula 1 driver with the sound and everything.

Put it on and let me know what you think of it. I love revving it and getting up in the RPMS, thats where the sound is amazing!

Any chance either of you can get a vid of the car reving? Assuming you are both running the same magnaflow system. Also, where is the cheapest place to get it?

Paid $583 for the exhaust but they are out in cali and I live in ohio, so the shipping cost moved the total close to $700. But I think its well worth it! Ive gotten nothing but great compliments from friends and family and people just looking at my car while im at idle and tell me to rev it....and so I do!

Yes a mazda dealership installed it and they did a great, quick job! I only trust mazda with my car! I dont want any of these other hillbillies touching my car!

It is a full cat back system!

The magnaflow system weighs 37.25 lbs. I dont know how much the stock system weighs. But its very compact compared to the huge drum of the stock exhaust! And it fits very very nicely and snug underneath the car!

This must be your first rotary. I think very few that has any extended rotary experience will trust our engines with a Mazda dealership. Only in rare cases do the dealerships know what they're doing, and even then they're expensive.

As for installing an exhaust, that's minor and any hillbilly can do that.

Would you mind posting a sound clip? And what are the chances of you doing a before and after dyno to see if there are any gains? Take one for the team!!

agreed, me and my buddy were going to install the Borla on my car, but after talking to a rep at my local dealership like.. 2 minutes from my house, he new a lot about cars, and for argument sake ill prolly just take it there.. as they'll keep service records of everything done, and if i show up with a borla exhaust on, and they didnt do that, they could hassle me about the rest of my warrinty, saying i wasnt trained and could have messed something up.. so for the sake of it, ill jsut take it there

What you need to do if you like the sound of the exhaust now, is to find an overpass and go WOT under it in 2nd gear or such, then you will get the full experience of a rotary exhaust.

Well yeah, its my first rotor but I trust those guys there. So I dont know what else to tell you. Had some bad experiences with a mazda dealership?

You should take a look on RX7club. I'd wager a lot of horror stories over there. Those cars are out of warranty are are being modified. Unless a tech there drives a modified RX car, they are as in the dark as if you took that RX-7 to a Toyota dealership. Personally, my RX7s were always way out of warranty and I only took one, the FC Turbo, to a dealership once because I had no choice.

If you keep your RX-8 OEM, you'd probably be fine. Then again, someone recently posted here that a Mazda dealership quoted them 9,000 for a new engine installed - that's absurd. You can get a very nicely ported engine and have it installed and still not get near 9,000.

Well I value your opinion and im sure there are tons of tech guys at mazda dealerships that have no idea what they are doing. But they did a good job on mine, so im happy with it. But I do plan on keeping my 8 for the longest time! I prolly wont ever sell it. I have alot of plans for it and I def plan on going FI.
