Looks like the sc rx-8 is coming from mazda sooner then we thought.I just bought the road and track issue of Speed and they confirm a eaton powered supercharger in a Mazda proto-type car.Ill try to scan some pics in tonight if i have time or will do in office tommorrow.
Rough numbers were as follows
275bhp @8300
201 lb-ft @5500
5.5 0-60
Hood scoop functional and looks mean with stock 245 275 stock 19" wheels
If this is a repost im sorry ive been gone awhile.

The latest issue of RXTuner had a small blurb about the Mazda AU turbo RX8.
"Mazda Australia public relations has already said publicly that there is NO chance of this car making it to production."

Exactly.
Just because it's built, it does not necessarily mean it is coming out, it's just an evaluation model (concept).

actually its much more horspower than that...those are the current MS specs with flywheel exhaust, etc etc etc
there was a miss print in that article...look in the body of the article for the real HP numbers (or estimated whatever)

We're not going to see a MazdaSpeed 8 before Spring of 2006, guarantee. Mazda is SLOW at launching new products, and they first have to launch the new MazdaSpeed 6 in Spring of 2005. It would then take them a year to gear up for the 8, if that is next on their agenda. It might even be longer if they have plans for a MazdaSpeed 3 or something else before the 8.

I know we have covered this issue in previous threads.....a search will yield pics and article itself for those so inclined. I know there are rogue memebers within the Mazda team that are not content with current performance of RX8, however this being said, do we really think Mazda NA will pursue such a costly venture? I will not hold my breath for a FI RX8, I believe we will see RX7 with FI stateside before any RX8 project. The rewards for producing a FI RX8 do not outweigh the cost and r&d. The consumer market and its buying power is not geared toward a FI RX8, but instead the market is leaning towards high performance sedans. And no matter how you approach it the RX8 does not fill that category or demographic.

But then again, you guys in the US got the Protege Turbo whereas no one else did (I think?)

The mazdaspeed 6, is a 160 hp engine right? After the turbocharger and all the other mazdaspeed parts, it gets 271 if I remember correctly? That's over 100 horsepower, so that 27 on the 8 seems to still be way too low.

Remember the Mazda6 is far from a performance vehicle. From the factory they have extremely restrictive components (airbox, exhaust, ect), plus the MS6 has low-comp pistons to help it push a helluva lot more boost than the prototype RX-8 is. The RX-8 comes stock from the factory tuned pretty tightly, look at gains from piggyback units like CZ or eManages. They're varying from a max gain of 20whp down to 5whp or less.

mazda learned a lesson...
I think mazda learned that , yes they can make the rotary pump much more horse's, but who's going to buy a 45k rx8. The 94/95 rx7 is still the fastest rotary ever made but no one bought the car at 43k because the average sports car junky doesn't want to spend that much.
I'm sure Mazda could put out a faster more powerfull 8, ( there are many articles on how much stronger this motor is compared to past rotaries) but would they sell if the price went up 10k or more. History says that even if it is an excellent car, it won't sell.

Nojooc, I have driven a FTP on the track on Tuesday. It has 290kW right, that thing cannot turn. I am doing 5 seconds slower then I can do in my RX-8!
The chassis and suspension is great in the 8! So any performance gain to say 230kW (or 180kW at the wheel) will come very close to the GT3s!

At least you didn't drive a HSV and experience the power steering pump s*** itself mid corner (now I hear Hymee coming)
