maybe it will be this model, no FI, but tuned ECU.
The date on this is from August, sorry if this has been posted before, but I just came across it.

I doubt that. If Mazda thinks giving us a retuned ECU stands up as a MS RX-8, especially after the MS Protege, Miata and 6 are all FI, they are really fooling themselves.

I got the new Best Motoring "Factory Fighters" DVD. In it they had the Japan only Mazda Speed RX8 and it was actually slower then the regular Mazda. The only real change performance wise was a change of the gearing from 4.44 to 4.7. It pretty much got whupped up on by the M3 CSL, Nismo 350Z & the EVO MR. Driver though the chassis was great, but the other cars just ran away from it on the straights at Tskuba. Our chassis is far superior to the 350Z's but this car definitely needs some more hp.

close. we did see one in the irvine tech center that had a supercharger on it. and outlaws has confirmed it being out on the road testing, i believe

keep the 8 for turbo charge, and will beat the hell of super charge mazdaspeed 8. regular rx-8 owners just need to upgrade some mazdaspeed parts or any aftermarket parts in order to catch up with the mazdaspeed

consider how subaru released the STi, they layed low while mitsubishi plastered us with everything about the great evo 8. subaru just one upped mitsu on all accounts and threw the car out when the evo 8 was introduced. that and the evo had been out for awhile, and wasnt expected to change much for USDM release. nothing compared to the difference of a JDM and USDM STi. now mitsu is playing catch up, and even their MR evo falls behind.

are there increased performance versions of the Z coming out (nismo?) or any other cars in our class? s2000? if there is, and there's anything to what tigray was told i'd be willing to be mazda's got something up its sleeve. i just cant see mazda's HP leader being the MS6 when the RX7/8 has always carried that flag.

there's a 300 horsepower Z on the way out, slightly longer body, better top end because of it.. looks more like a porsche tho..

well, that's only 13hp, but it would make sense.

Right, but the body redesign apparently gave the car much better handling and increased the top speed by a bit.

It's too bad mazda is so scared of turbo now. I think the mazdaspeed 6 is going to be the benchmark for future mazda turbo endeavors.

honestly, im suprised mazda hasnt been scared of the rotary in general. such huge R&D costs, warranty costs, etc with both the 7 and the 8 not to mention tighter emissions these days..i want to thank who ever over there finds the value in producing the RX line though!

How is Mazda afraid of turbo's? Mazdaspeed Protege, Mazdaspeed MX-5, and now a Mazdaspeed 6, all turbo.

They shouldn't be scared of turbo rotaries. They should be scared of doing it improperly. Look at the FD's.

That Z was made only for the Japanese market so that it can meet the production standards of the JGTC without the flaws of the current model. It will never be in the US and you will never see one in this lifetime.

Yeah, a homologation special.
As far as R&D on the Renesis, I thought a group of Mazda engineers did almost all of that on their own personal time? My impression was that the rotary would have been dead if it wasn't for the engineers that single-handedly saved it by moving the ports, changing rotors, and all of the other changes that make the engine the REW.
Also, as for turbo rotaries, does anyone know how the fd's reliability record was in its home market? I know the US has a reputation for slacking on maintenance and that's why everyone was hesitant to have a turbo here for awhile. But how does that fit in with the previous 13b's warranty issues here?
I know the #1 issue with turbo rotaries is emissions. If someone could figure out how to light a cat quickly on a turbo engine without cancelling the performance it would bring, we might have had a turbo trim line for the 8.
