Mid pipe or no mid pipe
hey guys got a question for those of u that are turbo. i drive my turbo rx8 daily just wondering if any of u would recommend that i run a mid pipe & is it insainly loud. the reason im asking is that i also have a 2 month old baby and i dont want to blow his ears out.

I was in the same both as you a while back. The turbo will quiet the sound of the exhaust down a bit. If you can get over the smell of gasoline when you idle the car then you can get a midpipe. Now with that you won't pass emission test.
A quiet midpipe needs to have big resonator or duel resonator. I think with the baby, a single resonator may be good enough as long as you don't hit the gas pedal hard when you drive around with the kid. I have Mazsport duel resonator and it is really nice. Sound as quiet as with stock cat and still loud enough when you hit the gas. No resonance no booming sound. I highly recommend it if you can find a used one.
If you run your car with Cat and turbo, I don't know how long that cat would last because your car run hotter exhaust.

Also you may very well trip your Check Engine Light. All this for a few hp. Better off getting the RP Supercat. And the cat acts as a resonator. Smell alone will be enough to make your kid cry.

Well, as long as you or your kid or someone don't stand behind the car. It's all good. I've been running with the midpipe on my 8 for a while now, and on my previous cars too. It doesn't smell that bad when you get used to it.

A sniffer won't detect a difference between a regular or hi flow cat. A physical inspection might not pass, but only if the inspection person knows what the stock cat looks like vs. the RP unit. A midpipe will 100% fail a emissions test.

Your midpipe WILL trip your Check Engine Light, which will be pretty much an automatic redflag & 100% WILL NOT pass the emissions test. You need to get a Cobb Accessport to wipe the code before you go in, if you get the midpipe. Once the CEL is tripped it doesn't turn off unless you disconnect the battery again, re install your stock cat & reconnect the battery again.

The RP Supercat WILL pass emissions. Like I said, unless the inspection person knows the car well, he won't be able to tell an RP Supercat from a stock cat. Probably 95% of time they won't do a physical inspection anyways.

And O2 simulators don't work with our car either.
Only way to mask the CEL for the O2 sensor is with the Cobb AccessPort.

The mid-pipes have a bung installed for the O2 sensor, but that sensor checks the efficiency of the cat (which you no longer have with a mid-pipe) and it'll still throw a CEL.

Before I got the AP I ran for a couple years with the CEL on all the time.
Got used to it after awhile.
But yeah, its also good to have available in case another system generates a DTC.

I use mine almost daily to display my MPH.
Where I have it mounted, the display is just to the right of my FOV.
If you look centered between the windshield washer nozzles, that view is where I see the MPH.
I find it easier to look over and back instead of looking down and up (don't ask, I like it).
But honestly if I didn't relocate my OBD-II port to the ashtray, I wouldn't use it daily like I do now.
The cord interfered with the leg and got annoying.
I even tried bending the bracket holding the port, but that didn't help too much either.

yeah i heard the location of the OBD-II port is a pain in the *** for some people depending on how you sit. but idk im thinking im gonna end up going with the new RP supercats cuz on another thread i was on they said if i buy the brand new version of it that it passes an e-check and it doesnt have anymore reliability issues. i just wonder if it will change the sound of my exhaust and by how much
