I opted the Turbo Xs midpipe and cat. Can't complain, but loud with my neighbors.

all midpipes will sound the same (raspy), the only thing that will make difference in exhaust sound is if it has cat.

I would just get one done in exhaust shop ... should cost around $100

Did they have resonator or cat on them? Otherwise with similar bends and similar diameter sound will not be different.

I would get it done at the shop (no point on wasting money for it) and I would get a nice resonator:

the cheapest that i found was $234 ... although i think 3" is oversize, no need to go more them 2.5"

I have experimented with 2 mid-pipes on my RX8. The first is my own pipe which is the B&B that's been around forever. The second was a 3 inch that Charles R. supplied to me.

The B&B has a smaller diameter with a longer, thinner resonator. I doubt it even could be called a resonator as it doesn't seem to do very much.

The 3 inch pipe had a shorter, thicker resonator at a different position on the pipe.

The 3 inch mid-pipe had less drone during normal driving, an overall lower exhaust note and did seem to be quieter in lower RPM operation than the B&B.

I can't say I noticed much of a performance increase but that's mostly due to the fact that all the mid-pipes I've seen that are 3 inches have a smaller neck. This creates a bottle neck effect on exhaust gases.

Overall, I'd say get whichever mid-pipe FLOWS the most amount of exhaust. I'd be sure to ask for that data from any manufacturer you buy from.

^ unless you're turbo, 3" exhaust is pointless

Quality of resonator is important to exhaust note ... lower exhaust note and less drone was due to actualy functional resonator

That's a pretty broad statement to make. What is useless is going with a larger diameter sized exhaust if the size you're already using flows with zero backpressure.

Since nobody (vendors/manufacturers) have managed to produce any data regarding flow on their pipes with the RX8 exhaust then it's only a guessing game.

There also doesn't appear to be any true 3 inch midpipes with the RX8 on the market as they all have bottle necks at the flanges. So having a 3 inch pipe with smaller diameters on the flanges would be pointless because there's still a restriction.

I paid 160 for mine from a forum member here.

He used it for under 10K miles, thing looked near new when I got it. See what you can find around here, used ones go for around 200 bucks.

eh, its not as loud as you'd imagine, ESPECIALLY with the stock exhaust.

It will turn heads at WOT however.
