Midpipe decision

Midpipe decision
Ok, so i dont like the sound of my rx7store midpipe w/resonator, and i have to make a desicion. do i want to keep it, and see if the sound improves, or sell it and get a different brand. if so, which brand would you guys recommend. i want to stay with a midpipe, cause i will be getting the RB race reflash, which will burn out a cat. so what do you guys recommend?

ok then. thanks very much. the raspyness did die down a little this morning on my way to work. well i guess a cat back will make it sound better. i think i might go with the greddy SP2 seeing as i found it for a little over 500. anyone else have the greddy with a midpipe?

The only one that is going to be close to "not too too loud" is the original OEM. I've searched for a nice quiet cat back exhaust and they just don't exist. They all want to be louder than stock and they are so w/a midpipe... well you'll get "too" loud prett much!
I'd heard someone (can't remember) was introing a dual resonated midpipe.. was thinking of getting that to try - perhaps with the OEM muffler the sound would be tolerablebly quite. But haven't seen anythign out yet.

well im not worried about it being loud at WOT, i just dont want it to be loud ALL the time. but i will give the midpipe time to break in. i will focus on other mods like water pump now, and flywheel

Technically no midpipe/racepipe/HFCat is turely 3" except for the TurboXS or a custom made unit. All the other midpipe/racepipe/HFCats "taper" to be able to fit into a catback exhaust. I can show you what I mean when I get home if you would like...

i know what you mean, thats how the gasket from the stock exhaust fits on my midpipe. you said you paid 500 something for both the midpipe and catback right? is the midpipe with a resonator?

You can buy the TurboXS Catback for $500 from their website. http://www.turboxs.com/shop_car4.php?car=16
Yes, this comes with a resonated racepipe/midpipe. However, remember that the TurboXS is about the loudest exhaust available for the 8. It is also one of the best for turbo applications.

I doesn't sound like any of the Catbacks available are going to provide you with the sound you are looking for. I say this because it's not the catback that is making the sound you don't like. Its the midpipe.
I think you might be better off with a midpipe that has 2 resonators or a HighFlow Cat. I was very happy with my RX8Store HF Cat. At first it was annoying but after a couple of weeks it calmed down. It was still very loud because of my TurboXS catback but not raspy/ricey.

^Any exhaust is going to heat up on a rotary. That is part of the deal. I melted one set of shrouds but since I changed the tips I have had no problems. Just make sure they extend out past the rear bumper.
Also, I have seen people melt the shrouds with a couple of other exhausts. It's not the exhaust that is the problem. Its how hard you drive the car...
