modifying my exhaust

I was wondering instead of buying a mid pip or getting like the agency exhaust shouldnt i get the same h.p. gains for the most part if i just take my cat off and gut it then put an exhaust setup on it. instead of buyin a mid pipe or hiflow cat?

no, not as good. test pipes are only 150-200 anyway.

Since we are really only talking about a 7 hp gain or so with a straight pipe, a hollowed out cat might in fact get you 5 or 6. Either way you shouldn't feel a difference but it will technically work. The factory cat is pretty damn expensive so remember that if you ever need to pass an emissions test. It may just be cheaper to buy a midpipe.

i live in iowa no emissions. i was just wondering for the money part it would be best just to gut my cat then? with only a couple horses difference your not gonna really be faster having the midpipe against gutting your cat. but be getting more performance then just an exhaust and not gutting your cat or getting a midpipe correct?

I think you will be better off just buying the mid pipe with cat. Horsepower difference is neglible and with out a cat your car will be a stink machince!

midpipe will be less turbulent and offer faster exhaust speed than your cat gutted.

The midpipe will also be lighter.

if you're not going FI, then going with a midpipe is going to make your car stink, make a lot more noise, and you're not going to go any faster.

A wide open rotary is a loud, loud machine.

Also, you could probably sell your cat for more than a mid-pipe would cost, so gutting it is kind of silly.
