More intake info
Alright so i have done plenty of searches but I only find a couple of things when criticizing intakes. TOO LOUD, LOUD, QUIETER, or QUIET. So basically all I know now is that some are louder then others. The question that I am concerned about is does the intake accent the sound of the motor. I love the whine of the rotary and I am curious if adding an intake accents that whine? Turns out thats would be the only reason I would put one on because from the way it sounds there is little/no hp to be gained.

watch some videos...streetfire.net...youtube...etc.
theres one video in particular with someone on the forum (hks legamax w/ hks racing suction intake)
in my opinion...it sounds sooo much more like a bike especially in the video with a driveby ...just your decision whether or not the intake is worth the money for the sound

Hey there nightkat,
Yesterday I installed the new HKS Legamax racing suction reloaded after 3 years of humming and hawing over what type of intake I should get.
I did searches on all of them, video, write ups, etc. This is my conclusion with the HKS....
Nice and quiet at idle but as soon as you apply any weight to the gas pedal you start to hear the air sucking in and the rotor whine start....once you get above 5000 it starts to get a bit angry and after 6500 your ears will not dissappoint you.
WHAT A BEAUTIFULL SOUND THIS INTAKE PRODUCES AND YOU CAN HEAR THE WHINNING OF THE ROTORS LIKE NEVER BEFORE.......
It's louder than stock of course but not as loud as some of these guys may suggest. why in the world would someone be keen on investing in a after market intake just to buy it, install
it and say it's too loud....? Aren't we trying to make it louder, more powerfull? I don't know sometimes.
Anyhow bro, if you want to spend a few more bucks for a RIPPING experience....I recommend the HKS Reloaded.
Best regards,
Hoodster

I just installed a new K&N Typhoon intake and at low RPM's it is not too much different than stock. Under throttle though it has a sweet howl that really accentuates the rotary engine. K&N dyno charts for this specific unit indicates some real gains on the top-end and I can tell you it definitely feels that way. As far as a downside it does create a bit of harmonic buzz in the dash under WOT. I am also having a custom CF cover built to enclose the filter area which should slightly muffle the intake noise and keep the air intake a bit cooler as well.

Alright Thanks I have been looking around. Dont want it to be extremely loud but I think that the sounds of the vehicle deff. make a difference in driving experience. Will be putting in an intake and exhaust here soon, Have to pay the racing ticket off first.

I know some one who just got a drop in, removed the VAD duct and installed the revi ram air duct. Louder than the Revi, quieter than the K&N. A nice beefy sound that works. I had both the K&N and Revi. The K&N drones out all sound you can have in the car, I loved it! But the GF didn't. So I have the revi now and it's louder than stock. The stock box and revi duct made more noise.
