MS Sport Exhaust
Hey guys basically I ordered the new MS Sport Exhaust, and I'm going to do the install this weekend or next weekk depending on when it gets here... One question is I'm not sure if its a rumor or not, but do I have to cut something during the install? someone said you have to cut an inch off of somethign, because the exhaust tips melt the plastic?????? true or false? I was hoping that I could just bang it out in an hour or so???? feedback appreciated!
for those of you who don't know what it looks like

I cut about an inch off of the plastic shroud when I installed my MS Dual Sport Exhaust. The directions supplied with the exhaust show you in detail how to make the cut. Some have done this and some have not. IMO, to be safe and to avoid any melting plastic take the 10 minutes and make the cut, it is not noticeable at all from the exterior of the car.
The install will take one person longer than an hour. Some extra hands were definitely helpful. It will probably take you closer to two hours or so, depending on how easy it is for you to remove the exhaust from the hangers.
Do a search and there are multiple threads discussing the install of this exhaust. Good luck.
FYI, I had an issue with a rattle at the slip joint and I had to take my exhaust off and re-install it. I believe I had seated the center pipe to far into the muffler Y-pipe causing an annoying rattle at idle.

It is just the configuration and bends of the piping that make it hang close to the top of the plastic shroud. It is not the tips that are coming close to the shroud but the piping that leads up to the tips.

Hey let me know how that baby sounds at various rpm's. I'm looking to do the same upgrade in the next 2 or 3 weeks.
I'm concerned about the sound at idle, 4-5 grand & wide open. Any drone & or truck sound at mid range 4000-5000 rpm normal driving?

Well I think it's definitely worth the money! Idle is the same as stock, but once you give it some gas it sounds real deep, I think it doesn't sound ricey or raspy at all, but a couple of my friends say that it sounds kind of raspy..... 4k to 5k rpm it sounds nice and deep, but I also have the AEM Intake.... Im trying to record it, but my sister took my recorder on her vacation... so soon it will be up....

I got mine from Rosenthal last week. $570 shipped.
Onlinemazdaparts.com has it for $510 shipped according to PerformRX-8.
But, they also have the worst website to navigate that I have seen since the early 90's, and enough spelling errors to make any English teacher roll-over in their grave.

My Mazda dealer is going to match Rosenthal Price on both items and charge me 1 hour for each installation. Hard to believe that they will install the both the MS sport exhaust and the MS Cold Air Induction for only 2 hours total at $80/hr.
Can't pass that up!!
These guys were awsome from the purchase of the car 2 years ago to date.

You may want to check on that MS CAI . My Mazda dealer said the part #'s changed along with the prices. The old dealer cost was over $500.00.
New dealer cost is $200 less. Also saw a picture clip of the MS CAI installed. Looked much differant than the stainless steel tubular one shown on Rosenthal Mazda site.
Maybe new one is much eaiser to install?

BTW - That's a killer deal on the parts/install. You aren't in So.Cal by any chance? Sounds like a dealer I'd like to use.
As far as the intake goes, I was planning on getting the RB CAI w/ the Air Duct. I decided not to buy one. I plan to go w/ a supercharger, and it will most likely include some kind of intake.
Until then, I'll probably do the throttle body mod, which is free, and probably see the same gains as an intake, minus the sound of course.
