My First Aftermarket Purchases

Hello,

I know these topics have been talked about, but i'm hoping to help filter out alot of the chatter and get direct feedback on this thread from daily viewers and more knowledgable experts then myself. I'm learning but the process is slow. Believe me you are helping out a "NUB" as i call myself with any feedback be it good or bad on my purchases. My brother and I are intalling everything and I look to purchasing furture performance parts as i'm quite in love with my 2004 RX-8

Cold Air Intake by AEM

New Exhaust Racing Beat RX8 Dual Exhaust

New Rotors and Brakes Mazda RX8 Front Pair 04-08 Sport DRILLED and Slotted with Curved Vanes and Hawk HPS Brake Pads Front and Rear

Thoughts please thanks so much

Well I just put on the exhaust this weekend and everything went smooth. It looks and sounds really solid. There isn't a huge sound upgrade, but it is nice when the pipes warm up. I will have pictures up when I put on the new rotors/brakes and Intake if anybody cares

just so you know, intakes and exhausts on this car won't add much power, only sound. That said, I really enjoy the sound of my MS exhaust.

I was in the same boat about 2 years ago, but I decided to go with the Trust PE Ti exhaust and the RB REVi + RB ramair duct....

Seemed more "solid" and "effective" than the MS, AEM or K&N products....

Nice appreciate the feedback. This is my 04 that i'm learning. I almost sold it and picked up a new 07 or 08, but i wanted to hone my skills at upgrading before I moved onto newer models. I figured the power wouldn't be a huge if any noticable increase. I haven't decided where I want to venture next after these are all installed.. was thinking a turbo, but haven't started my research heavily on this yet. I know greddy makes one for the 8's..

Hi,

Im new here too and making a plan to do mods to my 05 8 just like you are.
Since you installed the exhaust youself, I have a noob question, is it hard to do? How long did it take you?
Another questions is, have you replaced your brake rotors yet? I know racingbrake.com, but is there any other good place to go for them?

Thanks, hope to make friends and exchange some experience to each other.

Exhaust is a pretty easy job if you have all the tools available.

Need a jack, jack stands, necessary sockets & breaker bars, etc. Also, suggest some WD40 or Soap/Water to use on the exhaust hangers to get them loose & out of the "bushings"(Cant think of the right terminology). Should take a couple hours at most. (Depends on if your doing catback exhaust, or header back, where you'll replace the catalytic converter with a test pipe, or high flow cat or midpipe.) Having an 05 model in NE, where they salt the roads, I would lube up all the hardware before removing it.

Good to see another RX8 owner in NE.

I've seen many 8s in Omaha area, but just a few here in Lincoln. Good to meet u too. Thanks for your post and info, it's helpful!
btw, Im planning to get either a Racing Beat exhaust or a MS dual muffler one.
I feel like cold days are coming recently and winter in NE is HORRIBLE~~~I only have one car but do not want to drive it on snow since it's rear-wheel drive....Thinking about taking buses.

I think you need to ask yourself what is important to you. As mentioned above the exhaust and intake will change the sound of the car. The rotors will primarily improve the looks. While they reduce unsprung weight the OEM brakes are pretty good.

Ah, powerful Greek, you are lucky. In California, I believe the Racing Beat Revi/Ram air set-up is illegal on the4 street.

Get intake, but get the Race Version. Dont get Rev8

Dont waste your money on Rotor yet. maybe u can buy a set of *better* pads to go with your car. Stock rotors should be able to last very long.

Intake .... hit or miss.
