My new rotary engine 18000 RPM

Here are some pics of my new toy. Usable range is 2500-18000. Max power at 17000.

Ok as usual the crummy program will not take pictures this large.
Wish they would fix that problem, other forums do it.

So you have to wait until someone can help me get them downsized.

LOL. How big are they and what format?
If they're jpg's, just edit them with MS paint and click file and save and it'll automatically recompress them for you and make them smaller.

Richard,

An easy way to get the picture resized -
1. Right click on the file and select Sent To then Mail Recipient
2. You'll be asked if you wan to resize the picture. Select Make my pictures smaller
3. An email should then open with the picture attached.
4. Detach the picture from the email (in Outlook you can right click and select Save As)

Voila your picture should now hopefully be small enough to post.

HTH

Sounds like you got an O.S. model airplane engine.

if you are using Window XP, its easy.

install this MS power toy (image resizer)
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...ertoySetup.exe

then just rightclick on an image file and choose resize (you might have to restart your computer before it shows up)

What the Hell was I thinking, completly forgot who was going to see these.

Anyway it is 4.9 cc's 1.27HP at 17000.
I have a exploded drawing I have to picture it and get in.
Just for sake of it I'll tell you it has spring loaded tip seals but no side seals.
I havn't taken it apart yet but when I do I'll take pictures for you.
I'm going to make a test stand at work to fire it up.
Maybe someone with a video can make a clip for me with sound of course.

I put one of those in a car a long time ago. The problem was that the car was design for electric motor so I had no clutch. But that thing was FAST!!!

I have 2 of them but have never started or done anything with them... They are rated at 1.27 hp with the recommend fuel but can reach 2+ hp with higher nitro content fuel.

I posted a bunch of pictures here but they disappeared https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/exploded-view-model-rotary-engine-22546/

Why don't you buy a clutch for the engine and mount it in a car? It is not a plug 'n' play deal, but you would use it much more than if you installed in a plane. There was an old magazine article that showed that engine mounted in a monster truck. It was pretty neat.

ah....i had that same engine...had it in a Piper Cub...didn't have enough torque for such a floater of a plane..so i switched to a Saito 4cycle...it's a cool engine though...sounds mean (like a really pissed of weedwacker..) at WOT

I've always wanted one of those. I wonder what the compression ratio is? It does prove that a glow plug system can be made to work with a rotary.

sweetness.

So Richard. I think the real question is.. Are you going to make a mini axial flow SC for that thing too?

And since you have a machine shop, are you going to convert it into a 2+ rotor?

I looked at it but I can't make it that small. Just imposable to machine, plus it would have to turn maybe 250,000 RPM to get to airspeed on the blades. I didn't figure it out that's just a guess. Probably be able to do it with bushings.

Making it into a two rotor would be more feasable. I'd just have to learn a lot more about balancing them. And what happens to the timing with a glow plug?
I'd have to make a new Eshaft, but thats about all there is that's hard, right?

I didn't think to look on ebay. My loss I guess.
