Exclamation My Revi intake problem---ALERT

Guys,

I purchased the Revi intake quite a while ago--(I think mine was one of the 1st batch's out) and so last night I thought it may need cleaning. I have driven maybe 10k with it on. So I got my k/n cleaning recharge kit and proceeded. Guess what I found?
About 10% of my screen was occluded with foam packing material! It was on the inside of the screen(thank God). Now my piece came fully assembled and I have not had it apart since purchase. This means only one thing--it had to be present when it was shipped. Foam packing was on the inside of the filter and the screen was the only thing keeping the engine from sucking it in! Jesus!
Now I love racing Beat--have more than one of their products on my car and will buy more. I think this was just an odd thing---but I owe it to the forum to let everyone know what I found--no harm in checking yours just to be sure.
The oil in the filter does dirty up the maf and throttle body just a little so clean that while you have it off--also the inside of the maf tube and the velocity stack can get a little residue also--clean that!

Wow!
I just had mine apart to do some work connecting the Revi to the RB Ram Air CAI. I didn't notice anything wrong with it but too tell you the truth I wasn't really looking that hard. It didn't look dirty so I put it aside.
Now I'm wondering if I should take it all apart again..... mmmmmm

BTW what do you recommend to clean the residue off those parts you mentioned?

The molded parts have a lot of "static cling"...mine were difficult to clean out when I got it. I had little bits of styro in it as well...and I took it apart and hosed it out . It was a result of the packaging it came in

Got some of the k/n filter cleaner for the intake parts( even the metal parts) and for the maf/throttle body I used the MAF cleaner from Pep boys and q tips. Clean the MAF gently and the throttle body carefully --you dont want a stray piece of cotton in your throttle body!

no you dont have to take off the bumper. take out the accordion tube and then unbolt the filter from the back of the airbox.

When I installed mine, I forgot to put one of the nuts to hold the Intake to the car so I had to take the intake out of the shell and found the same thing. I didn't think much of it but one thing I did notice was that I had a helluva time trying to get the ring back on to hold the filter in place. I actually had to oblong one or two holes so the screws would line back up. It kind of made me kinda question Racing Beats quality control. But if that is the worst of the problems I'll have with it then I can live with it.

yea, yea thats it! Floating turbonator vortex foam--it atomizes the air particles and charges them with negative ions, increasing air flow AND helping your hair not develope those dreaded frizzes
Thanks RG I should have guessed this!

I happened to clean my filter on my Revi last night as well.....must be the season. I have to remove the front strut bar in order to squeez the large filter through. As everyone has mentioned to clean the MAS while I'm at it, I notice that there's an amber colored drip on the needle. Is this normal?

Yes that is normal color for the tip. Clean it anyway and dont forget the 2 little silver bars on the other side wayyyy down in the maf. Clean your throttle body while you are at it and also while you have the thing torn apart take your coild off and check them--only takes a few minutes more.

Can you use a "CO" contact cleaner to clean out the MAF and throttle body? CO is inert and dissolves grease/oil. It leaves no residue.

Interesting, mine did not have the foam packing. Glad they used one of the screens! I had it off the other day, and it had several dead bees stuck on the outside of the K&N. Must of sucked them critters right up the ram duct.

BTW, that part is the IAT (temp sensor)... the MAS element is up inside the hole in the middle- you can see the wires if you shine a light up in there. My IAT frequently gets dirty but is easy to clean with a QTip and some rubbing alcohol. The MAS is hard to get to and looks pretty delicate, so I would use a spray cleaner for electronics that can get up there and evaporate.

When I took my REVi apart I found a bunch of leaves and dirt that had collected at the bottom of the box from the air duct. nothing found its way past the filter though.

Just installed my REVi. RB must be watching because the intake was in a bag to keep the foam out...or that is my thinking.
Love that sound after 6000 rpms.

My REVI was shipped to me from Racing Beat, and the intake was sealed in a plastic bag, but had a tear in it...so my entire box was filled with those damn packing peanuts. Very frustrating.

I took mine apart yesturday, the filter was dirty and the box had quite abit of dirt in it. I cleaned the filter and used a shop vac to suck out the box. But what I did find is the nuts at the top towards the front of the car came loose and one of them came off. I tightened them as tight as I could again. But you should check these as well if you take the filter apart.
