N/A Rx8 into-13second Quarters

hey guys,

just thought i'd shed some light on how good this engine is with the right tuner and the correct mods.

currnetly have a Microtec LT-10, Custom Extractors, Highflow Cat, 3.5inch midpipe and magnaflow cat back. K&N typhoon intake system and topgun 10mm spark leads.

with just a few mods you can get this little rotor to go pretty hard Naturally Aspirated. ATM i have been running sub 14 sec quater mile times. 13.94 to be precise. Has anyone else got a fast running rx8 that is naturally aspirated?
would be much appreciated if you could give me some info so i can get some more ideas to get a bit more HP

Too bad a "g-tec" isn't precise! Trust me, I've had one and it'll get you within 1/2 second of your actual 1/4mile time. Also, it's spelled g-tech. I hope this is the Pro/comp model and not the first version they released.

You have to enter in the exact weight of your car, the testing strip your using must be straight with no bumps, and you can't have alot of vibrations at launch since it'll throw your G's off and time will be off.
I took the g-tec to a 1/4 track and it was reading .2-.4 faster. They had a scale there so weight was exact. I had to adjust the "off the line roll" setting to get it closer.
I'm betting your around 14.2-14.4sec

The only way I'd go crying to my mum is for you post a REAL timeslip.

Any FI 8 will stomp a normally aspirated 8, provided they've both got Renesis engines.

0-60, 1/4 mi, it doesn't matter. The NA 8 is a dog.

Interestingly enough, in Australia they've got a Mazdaspeed turbo kit that's running 13 psi...I guess the Auzzies wouldn't put up with sub-class performance.

they DO NOT have a Mazdaspeed Turbo Kit in Aussieland. and even if your talking about the Allen Horsey car - it has never seen the light of day driven by anyone that could honestly talk about it at all. and it never will because its an advertising gimmick

Piggyback engine management system that controls ALL of the fuel/ignition. Site here.
http://www.mazsport.net offers a plug-n-play version for us here in the states (Interceptor X). I'm using it along with other FI RX8 users.

I think some people are just upset that their 8s aren't demonstrating the same behavior. Personally I agree with the thread starter and Charles, my 8 has reacted very well to mods (and to being broken in perhaps) in REAL WORLD situations. Consistency is the challenge since the computer never seems to behave the same day to day.

I agree also - Mine has responded well to mods. I'd like to take mine to a strip one day also, but way back at 5K on the OD, my second gear was giving me fits. 34K miles later, I still have a notchy second gear. If I went to the track to get NA times in the 1/4, I might destroy that gear in the 1-2 shift, and I'm not ready to open the box yet.

the weight entered into a G-Tec effects hp number - acceleration/speed/.25 mile numbers are completely independant of weight
