Need advise on intakes!
I want a aftermarket intake after I saw some great videos on youtube.
I'm stuck between 3 options,
1. RB REVi intake
2. K&N Intake type 2
3. AEM Intake
Now, I have no experience at all with intakes.
So I'm asking you who have intakes to give some advices - I dont want rain problems, I read in some threads some had problems during the rain. I also want the most possible sound out of the intake system and a hope for some HP gain.
Thanks

Why I want to have a intake which gives more sound than stock? I don't know im crazy I guess hehe. Yeah, I done some reading in those threads, but most of them gives random information, not specific. Otherwise I wouldn't start a thread, Im not that crazy

I currently have the HKS Racing Suction. It was a bit pricey, but I honestly felt a difference in power right away. Not like OMG VTECH kicked in but a bit more pep. When I first installed it in the Fall and drove with windows down from 4.5k up it was beefy loud. If I shift into a gear too soon (ie. 4th, 5th or 6th the non low power gears) The car has almost a snorkel sound. I love it tho

i haave the k&n and i can feel it pulling a bit harder
also its pretty quiet when the throttles not open much
but when u get down on it, its very throaty and sounds good. up around 9k it sounds like world war 3, which is nice cause its tame when i need it to be and sounds good when i get on it

i agree with that 100 percent ppl usually feel that way
BUUTTT, i can feel a little better throttle response from stock intake to the K&N and i bet there are a hundred other ppl that will agree
no intake is gonna put you in the back of your seat but they help a bit

Save your money and get an accessport, sway bars, short shifter, nitrous or FI. Those are mods that you actually feel and notice, there is no placebo effect in those.
I've had almost every conceivable intake because of my stupid curiosities, dont' be as foolish as I was.

I also said the AEM is proven to give you power, which it is. Especially with the AP and an exhaust. MM had at one point said if you tune with intake and exhaust, you could perceivably lose up to 12 whp if you removed the AEM.
However as far as instant gratification goes, you will get a nice sound and maybe 3-5 whp from the intake alone. If you have money to spend, thats your deal. It's all relative to your end wants and plans for the car.

then if we basing it off sound and look, I'd still give it to the AEM. That one sounds the best.
Sound wise in my experience I'd rate them as following-
1.AEM
2.Injen
3.Racing Beat
4.OEM with Rmagic filter and baffles removed
5.K&N v.2 (makes your car sound like a 94 honda civic with mad v-tech)

i have the rb air duct with the k&n typhoon for a year now and i like it a lot ,sounds great is really loud and my set up is almost a cold intake . i dont like cold air intakes because they are a pain to clean(take front bumper out everytime will make me mad and im lasy) if you want sound with 10hp go kn typhoon with air duct fron rb, if you want... cold and not that loud go aem it is the same as mazdaspeed with 10hp, if you want quiet go rb with air duct with 10hp.

as for sound, id recommend the pricey HKS.
but as redefineRX8 said, just get a drop in + ram air duct OR ram air duct in the front bumper and get an exhaust instead. It'll be louder + ever-so-slightly faster than throwing on some intake.

And the Dryflow filters are actually very easy to clean, just takes a while to air dry.

RedefineRX8, So the Racing Beat system sounds louder than the K&N?
And how many of those in your list have the water problem? ( rain problem )

I would scratch the K&N off that list. Any short ram filter design isn't going to do anything except rob money from your wallet.
Overall, you're going to see very little WHP gains with an intake. If anything, you're looking at $100 per horsepower. The average cost for the intakes listed are about $300.
The stock intake is very well designed and simply needs a better drop in filter. If anything, the AEM would be your best bet because it is molded after the stock intake tubing.
Rain can be an issue with the AEM but it's not something that will leave you stranded.
I would spend your money on something that you will get much more enjoyment out of. Save your cash and buy an accessport which will give you real horsepower gains and real long term benefits.
