Need quick exhaust help.

I was just on the phone with a local exhaust shop. They said like 500$. I didnt go into details with mufflers Ect.
Now from what I've read. My car is N/a. I've read that people say 3" from the fange back is the way to go. Is this correcct? They have 2.5" and 3" pipe.
If I read correct 2.5 is smaller then stock.

Should i just have them Y off the stock pipe?

Should I do a 3" to 2.5" Y or just keep it 3"?

I also read something about these cars burning up mufflers. I know the shop had dynomax, magnaflow, borla, areospeed and a few off random rice crap.

I plan to head down to the shop after i get a few pointers. I would buy an exhaust system but most seem to be$$$ for a 2.5" I'd rather get 3" if 2.5" is smaller then stock.
I did look at the borla system but that muffler just seems weird for flow. I'd rather get something strit through instead of big bends and bouncing all over before it exits.

Any help would be great I'll keep searcing

well im first to help!! haha anyways for $500 thats kinda a lot. haha are u juss geting the catback?? or are you planing on gettin the catback and the midpipe as well. Because the midpipe is 2.5 stock from what im aware of. And i dont think you should get the 3" pipe. The reason for that is because you want some back pressure in your car. With the 3"pipe, you wont have as much pressure and therefore lose power. If you ever would like to use the 3" pipe you should be going FI. Or else there is no need for the 3". As for the catback, juss look into some. Try searching for places that sell them DIRT CHEAP. haha you juss have to keep looking for that GOOD price. i know a few peepz getting their greddy catback for about $400 brand new. So juss keep looking around.

I was just looking under my car, my eyes could be tricking me but with a ruler i was getting about 2.5" right before the muffler. I was pretty sure i read 3" on here before, anyways.
the 500$ was for SS mandrel bent and 2 mufflers, but it was just a guess.
Maybe i'm better off with a kit then, I just like to see the muffler in my hand so i know its a stait pipe and doesn't have baffles and other things you cant see on a already welded system.

I cant stand the huge tips on the greddy.
Mazda speed maybe.

ignore peter. you want the freeist flowing exhaust you can get. TurboXS is 3 inch and makes the most peak power of any of the aftermarket exhausts.

"need some back pressure"

I plan to get RP midpipe or something that wont give me a cel. I wanted to do a custom exhaust off of that. Turbo XS and Agency both come with catless midpipes I think.
They are both 200-300$ more then a custom exhaust would be, Thats money i could put towards the midepipe if i went custom.

Yea I didnt see how 3" could be bad if Borla uses it.

I think this is what the borla looks like. This is a flowmaster 80 series, but same idea I guess.
I have no Idea how it works and what is does for flow. Also it seems like air would exit 1 side more esy then the other.

Ryan, you should keep the stock exhaust and get a high flow cat or mid-pipe...this will cost less then an exhaust and free up twice as much HP as an a new exhaust system would.
