needing help on performance mods!

I am new to the club, and own a 2006 shinka rx-8. I have a AEM cold air intake, and Greddy SP2 exhaust. I want to make the most power without forced induction and wanting to be as sleeper as possible. someone help me!

hmm u could try.........SEARCH!..........a hi flo cat would really help, but it will make it really loud, u could do short shifter, or a lighter flywheel if u have the money for the labor, umm u could also do ecu upgrade like the interceptor.

Just FYI, without going forced induction you'll find yourself spending more than the price of admission for forced induction for only a small handful of horsepower. You could blow $5,000 to get maybe 20whp. What I'm getting as is that, unfortunately, you're not gonna be much of a "sleeper".

1st) High Flow Cat or Mid pipe ~+8 HP
2nd) Aluminum Flywheel +~8HP
3rd) Racing Beat PCM flash or Interceptor X or Canzoomer Piggyback
4th) Nitrous We mainly use the ZEX #82021 kit. Check the nitrous thread in the major horsepower upgrade
5th) Do the throttle body by-pass mod..stops flowing hot coolant though the throttle body

I'm in same boat as you and here is what I ended up with after much reading.

Flywheel
Piggyback EMS (Power Mod from Aussie)
Agency Power UD pulley
Mid pipe (custom made) Sounds OK with factory muffler
Racing Beat duct only - (decided cost/benifit of REVI intake was marginal after reading that most people noticed no difference) Plan to fabricate a decent joiner between duct & factory air box so should still get the "ram air" benifit.
K&N drop in filter.
Cost of above parts is not OTT & I should end up with a quick RX that won't void my insurance

The more I hear about the RP short shifter the more I think i'll have to have this too !

i also seen friends that low some RPM and power by removing the CAT. well does the high flow cat does the same effect? cause as i know high flow cat = removing cat. almost the same thing. it release the back pressure and gain exhaust flow. making rotor turn faster. correct me if i am wrong. i am still a noob.

Although the Fidanza is lighter, the ACT Prolite seems to rev the fastest.

MS is the heaviest out of most of the aftermarket flywheels. People just get it for the brand.

I really wouldn't get mazdaspeed. The most expensive and the heaviest. I think its one of the worst for performance. But like moostafa said, it is mazdaspeed, some comes with some warranty. BUT, the dealrer told me that installed products by them are only warrantied for 12 months/12k miles. But I guess they would be less likley to blame your mazdaspeed flywheel that it caused a part of the tranny to fail if they installed it.

As has been said a million times before, flywheel weight isn't what you should gauge performance by. It's where the weight is located on the wheel (Centrifugal force) that matters.

Without FI, your RX-8 *will* be a sleeper in both looks and performance. I don't think you can get much more than 25 hp with bolt ons. It's not worth the money. But if you look at modding as a hobby, then it can be fun.

Its called a torque convertor & theres not a lot you can do with it .
Have to agree with others here about the AT - FI is the only way you'll get any decent performance out of it

Yeah.. heaviest..flywheel.. but i meant total weight.. with the counter-balance..so again, If i were to purchase the ACT flywheel.. would the mazda dealership install it for me, or, since its not a mazda speed part, take it too some other shop?

Actually Racing Beat is just is good as ACT.

I feel it's better due to quality and reliabilty.

Don't forget to remove as much weight as possible.

Unfortunately any slight modification to our competetiors will make you cry.

For instance: A 350Z with intake and exhaust will kill you

There goes being a sleeper.

Look into Richard Pauls' Super Charger.

Razz1 or anyone else, is there a big difference if you don't get the counter weight for the flywheel?
