New Cold Intake - Weapon 'R'
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7937523436&catego ry=38634
Hey everyone,
Just wondering if anyone has heard of this company. I tried to do a bit of research on them, and I havn't come up with much. Only 175$ on ebay, they seem to have a ton of dyno's available to back it up on other cars. (none on the 8 thought) - Convenient.
I am VERY sceptical about anything I haven't heard from in this forum. The unique thing about this is that it uses a foam filter rather than a cotton or paper mesh.
What do ya think???

Since no intake will give you more than a couple of horsepower on the RX-8, theirs can't possibly do much either. The foam filters they use are absolutely horrid. They also don't have any shielding around the filter. It'll let you breathe hotter engine bay air. Check out my thread called "Believing manufacturers dyno claims". Don't necessarily believe a dyno chart just because they posted one. Also don't believe the RX-8 will get gains just because other cars do. I know for a fact that you can get more power out of a Civic. I have one. The stock airbox is a maze of passages, baffles, and tubes. It still sucks air from the engine bay too. The stock Civic airbox is junk. The car still isn't noticably faster though but the gas mileage did go up. Don't interpret this to mean that the RX-8 gas mileage will go up. 2 different cars. 2 different results. The stock RX-8 airbox actually has some pretty good engineering to it. Save your $175 for something that will make you go faster. Put it towards a new ecu or a flywheel.

I got one for my brothers 2001 Honda Accord V6. it was absolutely terrible. Fit was all off. Terrible quality. Wound up ditching it, and getting a Comptech airbox instead.

l wouldn't buy it simply because it came from a company called "weapon r"...I mean.."Weapon R" ?! What the hell is that all about? Sounds like they stole their name from some really bad Anime movie or something...what about "weapon w" or Weapon z"? what's the "R" for? "r"eally lame?

They didn't put in the details that the Weapon R intake uses a special hydromorphical induction system that siphons the air increasesing velocity and air intake flow thus increasing HP. The new system uses a flux capacitor with an internal lubricating assembly to really "suck" in the air. Power gains on an RX-8 have typiccaly shown more than 300% over other intake increases!!

I'm so sick of these intake threads. Hopefully this one won't get as stupid as waiting for AEM to release another filter kit that does nothing to make you faster. I guess if you count on the car weighing less because your wallet is lighter, you might see a difference.
Everyone waiting for an intake, there is only 1 system that is even worth taking the time to look at. It is the Racing Beat system. It will give you a MAX of 4 hp. Can you actually feel 4 hp? No. It isn't out yet though so you'll have to wait. It is the single best designed intake system out there for the RX-8. EVERY other RX-8 intake system is a waste of time!

rg, I agree to a certain extent, but I do like how alot of the intakes that are available sound.. and yes that doesn't make you go fast, but it *is* a factor, very similar to exhausts.. however hopefully the exhaust % will increase post-porting (I hope the cali guys get their project moving soon... sigh)

If you are buying one because of the way it sounds, buy it only because you like the way it sounds. If you are buying one expecting to go faster, you will be disappointed.

no I totally agree w/that.. like I said, if it sounds good and doesn't hurt performance, buy it because of that, not because of some mythological 12HP increase they rigged up a dyno to puke out.. imagine if these manuf. claims were all true.. an intake, exhaust, flywheel and midpipe would make the 8 have ~240 at the wheels.. I guess nobody realizes how totally unrealistic that is heh

From everything I've heard about these guys, putting their intake on just for the sound (let alone "performance gain") is not advisable! That is, unless you want crappy idle among other things.
