First I've heard of it. No doubt that in the next few months theres gonna be a flood of them im sure though. I know RacingBeats is in development along with a couple others. Around summer time it should be interesting as the hp/price wars begin with some of these mods.

Interesting. Note that this device does not come with any maps - it just allows you to overide the stock programming yourself. You still have to find the maps somewhere. Pretty cool, but you better trust your source - I can see the blown engines now (alt.binaries.rx8ecumaps, anyone?)

I wonder how much better Maurice could do with this as opposed to his piggy back unit.

The CanZoomer stage 3 also has multi-map switch-on-the-fly capability, and it should be out soon too.

Yes but it's still a piggyback. I'm no ECU tuning expert but some do believe that directly programming the map is superior to piggy back units. At least it would eliminate the problem of always having to ensure that you current piggyback map matches your current Mazda flash.

You know, I've developed 6 or 7 different MAPs for my E-Manage.
Each was developed from scratch to try different approaches to each load range and such.
I also toyed with different "power levels", a la Canzoomer "stages".

The fact is, for a system that will AT MOST give you 30 or 35 HP (which is all you will get from an ECU alone), there just isn't a need for multiple maps.
Just develop the map that produces maximum power and go with that. You aren't saving anything by being more conservative.

"Oooh, by being more conservative, I can save my CAT from wearing out in only 6 years instead of 7!"
BFD.
That is how I feel about it, so sue me.

Seems reasonable. Again, what I find attractive about this is that you don't have to synchronize your piggyback map with your OEM map, and you don't have to worry about the dealer flashing your map away (ala Racing Beat).

In the end, though, it will just be one more thing to rattle around in the interior of the car, and for that reason I probably wouldn't go that route. Same reason I prefer the MP3 CD player to a iPod - I just don't like having extra electronic things I have to manage every time I get in the car.

They have been in develpment for the 350 for like a year now.Dont hold your breath.
Ok scratch that, just got off the phone with rotarty perormance in texas. They will be the only distributor for this product so they say.499 price point and does a reflash of ecu,no piggy-back stuff. It will also read and erase check engine lights.I think someone finally cracked the box cause rotary says it will be available in a month.Save your cash this is it.
As far as proof of company, rotary performace aka rx7.com is the biggest supplier of rotary parts in the US.

I've heard a LOT of good things from the Cobb Tuning AccessPort for the WRX.
I like it, because you don't have to change out your ECU, or piggy back it. You basically just program it on the fly (via a cable under the steering wheel).
And if you just want to stick with a map, you should be able to program it, and take it out.
At least this is what the WRX one does.

And the ones from CobbTuning gives you 10 maps, and to download other maps are free.

There's sooo many possibilities. They have different maps for different octane levels. They have a Valet Mode (early rev limiter). They have a long drive mode (saves on fuel).

It's really cool (assuming they do everything like they do for the WRX)

That thing sounds awesome. I never thought about the "anti-theft" map idea before. Imagine the look on the theifs face when the car is set to fuel cut after 1000rpms!! Now if only we can auto-lock the doors on him and gas and/or electricute em too!

A friend of mine had an ECU for his Z twin turbo that had a key and 3 positions. Stock, max boost and a valet mode. The valet mode limited the car to 2000 rpm. I would LOVE to have a set up like that.
