New here could use some help with intake.
So i've had my auto/manual rx8 for about 3 months, and i've been thinking about getting an intake. Thing is im not sure which one to get, or if I should just keep it stock. Ive been hearing alot of bad things about K&Ns typhoon (short ram????) and aem's cold air, well those have had average reviews. If all im gonna get is a cool sound and not some actual sort of gain that id rather spend my college refund on something else, any help would be appreciated

Appears like you're doing fine with your "researching skills" so congrats on that.
And you're right about there being no real gains except for sound.
AEM and Racing Beat are the two popular brands... but again, it'll just improve sound.
Keep it stock and spend that money elsewhere.

Hey thanks. thing is I gotta spend this money on something. or atleast i want to spend it on something for my car, around $700. I guess I could get a sparco steering wheel, or a air freshner with some flame decals how much hp will i get from that???? jk, is there anything in that price range that can up my performance on my rx8???

You can purchase a Cobb AccessPORT before its too late and have it tuned by MazdaManiac:
https://www.rx8club.com/mazdamaniac-183/accessport-instructions-instructions-197783/
Keep up those searching skills and you'll discover there isn't much outside of forced induction for performance gains.
Short Shifter is a real popular item... though I don't understand the hype (yes I have one too).
Use the money to go out to local auto-x and track events to race the car (legally).
Then you'll find out how enjoyable the car really is to drive!

Especially since I've been giving you compliments for actually researching unlike MANY others!
What would you like to know?

Go to MazdaManiac.com
Jeff has written a page to best describe what the module is and the benefits of owning one.
OOPS... just realized you're an automatic... nevermind, doesn't apply to you.
But it does what its called... shortens your shift distance.

yeah I started off with the aem, cold air right? but i was looking through the forums and both the k&n and aem arent really well received. plus they k&n only makes the short ram, so thats no good to much hot air and I really dont want that decrese in hp especially with all the mustangs around GA. AEM sounds good but, not really big on the idea since theres not much gain. and I dont think its worth the money to pust it on the dynos to see how much hp ive gained/lost from just an intake installation.

One thing to consider is a midpipe.
Black Halo Racing is close to releasing their mid-pipes:

Also, the Racing Beat Dual Resonated mid-pipe is great buy too:

nice, i like the Black Halo Raging pipes, one resonator cool. too bad their not out yet. I remember when i had my mustang gt, had some borlas too bad i hate mustangs. random, but whats gonna happen if i get these, some engine power.

I have to swap out my mid-pipe for the cat every other year for e-check and I will say that there is a noticeable performance difference between the two.
Not saying its huge and going to give you 20+ HP extra... but noticeable.
But keep in mind that its not street legal (since you're removing an emission device) and it will produce a CEL (unless you purchase the AccessPORT which "hides" the CEL for that code).

Not street legal you say??? That sounds awesome already, well yeah I think everybody should know your not gonna get that much hp unless you do some serious engine mods, which takes alot of money....that i dont have yet. but you gotta start somewhere, and I love my Rx8 so its an investment I am willing to make.

From: 12 o'clock on the Beltway.
I got my turboxs catback and midpipe for $499. Not sure if they are still selling at this price or at all.
I mention this because this was the only non-custom, 3", downpipe-back exhaust on the market. Boost pressure went up a lbs and a half. Definitely a steal of a deal.
While Jon does have some very good advice, it might be best to start by building on the strengths of the RX8, not the weaknesses, first. Think: tires (NT05s), sways (whiteline, Racing Beat,) suspension (JIC, Tein.) Any of these will take your great handling car and make it superb. Just mho.
