First: read the exhaust threads and the nitrous threads specifially Charles R Hill. Then you can make your own decision based on what you want.

Here's my summary:
exhaust cost=~$500
HP gain=2
$/HP= $250

Nitrous cost= $2-3K (best guess)
HP gain=55 (conservative starter kit)
$/HP=54

Nitrous gives you better bang for the buck. My $.02

my nitrous was $450ish plus $300ish for extras ie. remote opener, purge n heater. im holding out on buying a second bottle and setting them up together. i would go with the nitrous first as it gives you the most gain in terms of power. before you jump in it read the "nitrous..." post first. its a lot but it has a ton of info from trial and error of a bunch of guys.

but, if you are looking for that louder 8 then you will want to go with the exhaust but you may have a sleeper with the nitrous on stock exhaust. it all comes down to personal preference. good luck

Here's another variable:
RP Supercat = $395
HP gain = 8
$/HP = 49.3

You were just thinking of a catback.

Jack, what are you looking for right now power or sound ? If it was me, I would do the nitrous. Get the Rp Supercat (and it will make the exhaust louder), and see att hat point if you want it louder. Be aware that a single sided exhaust will be really loud. But also the hp gain is quite a bit more than 2 hp. Because of the design of the (HKS) single sided the exhaust is much more stright thru. On our (& most aftermarket) double sided exhausts the exhaust gasses go thru the cat, and the C-pipe and hits/seprates right in the middle of the 2 mufflers and has to travel sideways, then out. The HKS single sided is pretty much straight out from exhaust. Imagint a upside down "T" for the double sided exhaust vs. an "I" for the single sided. Not to mention the weight savings.

I dont see how you could spend 2-3k on nitrous... maybe direct port but thats not what you want if you're only running a 55shot. A dry kit should be about 500... wet kit 700... you'll want a wet kit if you plan on ever running a reflashed ecu.

Racing Beat stated they only got 5 hp when they removed the exhaust all together (I assume after the cat) so you shouldn't expect to see more than that at the most. Either way I agree with Fanman. Go with the nitrous. If you want to do the exhaust he's right you're better off doing the high flow cat instead.

Even better then. You pay about the same price as the exhaust and you get big power on demand!

If I could go back to when I got my car, I think I would have gone with a zex wet kit instead of bolt ons.

I do like the sound of my exhaust though.

Yeah, I'm not saying like 10-15 hp like some of these vendors claim, but like 5 hp (vs. 2-2.5 hp of a dual) on a NA car, and about 15-20 lbs in weight savings.

I'd do exhaust first...then the Nos if you must. But yeah, I second...BEWARE OF THE NOS. Its not kid and play like some merchants may say. You might be cutting serious years off of your engines life...
