No CEL with Midpipe - Why?
Can anyone explain why I do not get a CEL though I have been running catless for quite some time now?
I went roughly 15,000 miles without a permanent CEL, though it did come on a few times, but would be gone soon enough. Had the motor replaced with a reman, and as expected, I still have had no CEL.
Any ideas? No, I do not have the CEL disabled, either. For the record, I would like to go the high-flow route but at the moment, it's not exactly an option.

I've swapped out the OEM header for the RE-Amemiya as well as had another motor swapped in, so I doubt any sort of exhaust leak is the culprit.
As far as "one of the lucky ones," that's always been my explanation when people ask me - After the years, I realized I want to actually know why now

He's as bad as Can
I also have been running a mid-pipe (RB Dual Resonated) since April and no CEL at all. My 8 is an early build (05/2003), I have seen others say that's it. The O2 bung on the RB is farther from the header than on some other mid-pipes. The other thing is I had to replace the rear O2 sensor about two years ago, maybe the replacement sensors are less sensitive? These are all guesses.

F the CEL, you have a RE header? I hate your guts.
CEL with a catless midpipe is a mystery. We put one on Grungepups car recently and he has no CEL Mine was on everyday until I loaded my latest map

Not true, I have an Oct 05 build, and I would only get a CEL occasionally, and briefly. Mostly not on.
It's either tune based or sensor based, probably sensor based.
Either you have a permanent, have an intermittent, or have no CEL. What you get is luck of the draw unless you stack the deck for one or another (have a CAT or have an AP).
I too am one of the "curious but not complaining" crowd.

Ajsabido - if you have your car tuned via accessport, having the tuner turn off the CEL connected with be catless is an option.
Well, my car is an 05 with an 04 production date - if this has an effect on it, what would the reason be?
Like riwwp said, I'm in the curious but not complaining group. That said, my curiosity is begining to grow!

When I ran the RB unresonated, I got a CEL within a couple minutes, but with the mazsport that I have had on the car since Early August...nothing. But i have to go for emissions next week, so it has to come off for a bit.

Short trips and long trips alike; I don't know what is considered long distance but I don't think I'd qualify. Nothing like 60 miles/day or anything like that...

Could it be that Mazda hardwired more lenient emissions standards in the earlier cars due to the emissions of the earlier tunes (ie. this would be more common in earlier cars?)
Just an idea, still want to know!

I wonder if it has to do with the different MAZDA FLASH's. It's possible there is a code that not all flashes (even though they are the same letter of flash) have.
Someone who knows alot about "Tuning" may be able to confirm or debunk this.
I would love to run catless as we do not have emission tests here. However I know the cell would drive me nuts.
