Nology Hot Wire Issues

Anyone experience this? I had to take my car in for some general maintenance and because I threw a CEL. Well.. as it turns out the CEL was caused by the wires mis-firing all over the place in the number 1 port...

Their reccomendation.. install the oem wires... Rrrr

Anybody else have any issues with theirs?

Apparently you missed this recent Nology discussion thread !

Nology wires are snake oil; they can't do anything good for your car, and obviously they can screw it up. Toss them in the trash (or hawk them to a sucker on e-bay?), chalk it up to experience, and throw the stock wires back on!

Regards,
Gordon

Mazda just called and said that it had fried the spark plug and that all of them looked as if I had been driving the car for years.. Very bad condition. They must not be that compatible with the car.

I shouldnt have that much problem getting my money back now....

Everyone should be warned about these..

That sucks. Sorry davefzr. I guess these Nology wires were too good to be true. Figures, since Nology is considered a ricey brand.

I have had my Racing Beat spark plug wires on for a week now. Runs fine. No issues what so ever.

I had been wondering about the capacitors which are built-into the plug ends. I figured the coils are sensitive enough without being hammered by aftermarket wires. Good thing the plugs took the hit and not the coils, although beware of that next. Thanks for the notice on the problem.

davefzr,

Sorry to hear about your bad experience

Okay, I've got to ask after all the discussions on these wires. Before these things destroyed your sparkplugs, did you see/feel any difference.

Specifically: power and MPG improvements.

It would be helpful hearing first hand if the wires really seemed to be doing anything before all the problems.

Magnecor wires have a really outstanding reputation. Their website discusses at great length why other wires (such as the Nology) are all hype and marketing.

Would be glad to...

I really think this has been going on for the past few months.

As the cars rpm rose in 3rd, 4th and 5th gears the car would begin to loose power. This normally happened right around 7500 rpm's and would progressively start to get worse as the rpm's rose.

So, as the rpm's started to pass over 7500, the car would start to sputter. The best way I can describe it is that it lost about 20 hp all of a sudden and you could barely hold the speed.. forget about accelerating.. it was all over at that point. The highest I could take it was 8500 before I had to shift into 4th. The car was just not accelerating and I had to shift it. The same would happen for 4th gear as it forced you to shift into 5th when it should have continued accelerating for at least another 1500 rpm....

I got the car back and now that problem has been solved...

VividRacing and I have been in communication with each other and I think that 4 burnt spark plugs will qualify as a failed product...

The Mazda dealership described the plugs as being 10 years old and in dier need of replacement....

That should tell you enough about the state of the plugs and the lack of performance from these wires..

later..

So Dave are you going to stay with aftermarket plugs like Racing Beat or Auto Exe (any others ?) or are you going back to stock ?

I just went back to the stock form for both the plugs and wires.. it's a lot better now.. so I dont plan on changing these for a while.. Possibly going to a #8 plug or something but thats about it.

I am wondering why you would need to go to cooler plugs, unless you have FI or nitrous. I have just about every mod available(except for ECU) and the stock plugs work very well, even with the 55 h.p. boost from nitrous. To go any higher would require 8's or 9's. I can see replacing the wires, as I may soon do myself, but the plugs are curious to me.

yeah if anything the HOTTER plugs would be a better bet against the horrors of flooding and over rich fuel ratios! you're not boosted yet, so don't worry about it.

That's one issue I have never had a problem with; flooding. I'll consider myself lucky.
