noob question

what bolt on's can i get without having to tune it? also what bolt on's actually have proven horsepower gains? i have experimented with a lot of honda cars and most people just think it's faster just because it gets louder. from my reading on this site, a midpipe and a exhaust is good proven power adders, and from what i interpret an intake doesn't do much. how do you get the cel light off if you have a midpipe?

Midpipe+Exhaust = maybe 10 HP, more noise, a CEL and $1,000 less in the bank.

The RX-8 doesn't respond well to " bolt-on's ", Mazda did a dam good job on this car. It's not easy or cheap to improve on stock.

I've replaced my intake, exhaust, midpipe, and pulleys and have never thrown a CEL in over 2 1/2 years (except when my SR cat fell apart). Even though they are called "bolt-ons", you still have to take your time and install it correctly.

so the midpipe will not throw a cel? i was looking at the exhuast, cat combo from turbo XS and it showed a dyno gain of 25whp. that's just hype right?

thats not necessarily true...it alllllll different on every car. when i experimented with the sr high flow cat...it threw a cel immediately...then when i switched to the b&b testpipe...i ran for about 3months without a cel...then bam, i got a cel...so theres no rule about it that's set in stone. some get lucky with it, some dont...

man...i wish i lived in florida!!!...anyways, there are no definite fixes to the cel, some have tried to get rid of it by tuning but still came back on, its just that our ECU is just wayyy too smart...i say just live with it...you might get a cel, you might not...

i actuality no its not just hype...considering it was my car that made those gains on the low end and about 34whp peak...search for my posts on the turboxs system and check all the info... i'm very satisfied...it does throw a cel though regarless of the "fixes" that are availabke. i have cleared the cel numerous time and believe the problem is with the brakes now which need to be replaced....overall i would reccomend this system but you probably will have to deal with the cel and the fact that it is pretty loud.
