Not trying to be rude, but I dont think you arent going to get the results you are looking for with this car. Especially without modifying the car. You could swap out the differential, but that will affect your cruising RPM and fuel consumption. Even a SC or turbo set up wont give you the results you are looking for. Best advice is going to be to learn how to launch the car.

Also, just to tell you before everyone else jumps in and yells at you, search for the answers before you go making a bunch of threads...

lightweight flywheel and clutch, accessport + tuning, catless midpipe and that's about it for NA mods.

the car is not for speed its more for autocross and drifting, go buy a 350 or 370 if you want to go guffey strate that dose not need much skill to do

well the problem is you are going WOT under 4k rpm... it's like going WOT in 350z at 2k rpm... There isn't that much power.

If you want some good mods it's going to cost you. Please don't make a thread where there is a million of them. There is a search function... so use it. There are many things you can read that can help you.
Get a midpipe from Racing beat or BHR (because they are pretty nice and one of the quietest), Get a Header, BHR ignition kit and get it tuned by the Accessport from Mazdamaniac. With all those you should be above 200whp. Oh get some pulleys, a flywheel and lighter wheels and you will notice a big difference.

You ever been in a 350 at 2k RPM? One thing VQ motors do pretty well is make torque. This isnt a very accurate comparrison by any means, as I am guessing that a 350 at 2k RPM is exactly what he is looking for lol

Oh, and OP, told ya this was coming lol.

You did not test drive the car before you bought it?

Not to disagree with any previous posts, but this car was designed for driving enthusiasts. That encompasses the entire range of road experiences, not just a fast launch or smoking tires in the first 4 gears.

Mazda didn't have drifting in mind when they designed this car, or point-and-shoot time trials.

The car was meant for the open road and all of it's variations. It brings a smile to your face just in daily driving.

That said, if you want to spend some money, you can push it in other, more specialized directions. But don't bitch about performance simply because you were clueless as to what you were buying.

Agreed. Monaro all the way. I would own one right now if it wasn't for the insurance. For a 23 yr old with no speeding offences e.t.c, they want around $2500 a year. No thanks...

..I'm more then happy with the 8 though. My advice for the OP, take the car for a drive through some twists and turns. I have a new appreciation of little "buzz boxes" after a few long cruises in my 8.

Not impressed with the power in 1st gear? What are you trying to do in 1st gear that you need lots of power? Tree stump pulling? Tractor pulls? Tow truck? I don't get it. You're out of first gear at about 15 mph anyways so what's to impress?

Jets lag. It takes them a few seconds to wind up much like a turbo Supra. From 0-15 mph where the RX-8 would be in 1st gear, it would kill most jets not using a catapult. Not much hope soon after that though. I don't see how a jet engine would impress when it would be even slower than an RX-8 and it's lack of power in 1st gear.

Jets can spool up and have the power on standby without actually delivering the power to propel the vehicle, and a turbo can spool before launch with a two step...

So all the OP needs is a large turbo, a two step, and to bounce his motor off the two step at every red light, problem solved! And there is no drawback there, absolutly nothing could go wrong with that, right?
