I dont think many people even run a header due to the shear fact that the HP to $ ratio is not generous at all..

I thought it sounded great (I think I had the header, a midpipe, and the REV8 at the time; I have a thread on it around somewhere), but it isn't worth the effort HP-wise.

Better off spending the money on RB re-flash or Agency Power pulley if you are looking for inexpensive upgrades.

summary is: it deletes the stock air injection system, which throws a CEL, and loses horsepower.

^^ not to mention, my mechanic friend who works at mazda said that he got a rx-8 come in and the owner was complaining of the CEL(mentioned above) and that there was so much heat coming out of the car. Turns out the OBX header the customer had on was cherry red, and was causing all these problems. I wouldn't suggest getting headers.

Was your mechanics friend's sisters brother-in-law named Ricky Bobby?

I had a header. Never glowed red. Never caused problems. Maybe it was painted red?

or not.. the stock header will glow... the color of the header will not cause a cel...

your tard facts are wrong... now the obx headers with out the air injection ports are a different thing.. but that is something your sisters brothers mothers boyfriend will have to tell you in a year..

any header on the rx8 will glow if it is not shielded like the stock one is, thats just how hot the rotary gets when you aren't moving and you are running it hard, like on a dyno.

It will glow if you run it hard, but on easy, round town drives, my pyrometer says my manifold is around 500C (somewhat less for the surface of the hot side of the turbo). That is barely visable red even if it is dark. 7krpm for five minutes might get you "cherry red" (which might be interpreted as being around 750C) at but only when the motor's running. Buy the time you get out and under the right wheel and stick your head in there, it won't be that red.

i had the obx for about a month until i got the re-amemiya- and cant really tell the difference- but what i observed with the obx was that 1. it doesnt give you any problems with cels or anything like that 2. it does glow but like a bluish-purple color ( not cherry red ) . and the re-amemiya performs the same - i think its the same header made by different companies

Why did you change from the obx to the re-amemiya? Does money burn a hole in your pocket?

I had the obx header on before i got the turbo. The only problem I had with it is that the flange was too large and would not clear this long bolt by the oil pan, I had to grind down the flange by about a 1/8 of an inch on one end and about 1/16 on the other. I got my header back in 2005 and there was no hole for the air injection but there was a spot for it to mount. It did sound better but no real power gain until I got rid of the cat.

the obx header is a copy of the re-amemiya header.

actually, from what i remember, the difference in the headers itself is the obx is one block carved (to look like 2), while the re-amemiya is 2 blocks welded.

i'm running OBX headers and i haven't really notice any horsepower difference, i got them 'cause i bought them from my friend for $50, so you can't beat that,,, i noticed was that the stock unit was heavier then the OBX headers

I dont know where its good that Mazda did such a good job maximizing its potential through stock parts, or if it sucks that trying to improve upon them doesnt do much for the Renesis, but drain a hole in your wallet.
