Oil coolers

Oil coolers
Has anyone seen Revolution's aftermarket oil cooler? I think this thing looks pretty cool, though I am sure there is a company here in the United States that could make a similar design. Is an aftermarket oil cooler necessary in the RX-8's current state of tune? I don't see any dramatic changes in oil temperature and pressure, so why are these things needed? Suppose I increase the oil pressure in my car for some purpose. Would I have to invest in an aftermarket oil cooler? Actually, why would it be important to increase oil pressure at all?

Well, the US has TWO oil coolers, versus the JDM single (unless some version of the JDM '8 has two that I don't know about). I think the real question is would you need an aftermarket one since you have two already...

Who's on first? Could it be our climate? Possibly the terrain? I dunno. Revolution's aftermarket oil cooler may help redesign the front end so that the two areas around the fog light wouldn't be neccessary and this could totally make a redesigned front possible. This is only a guess. Besides, everyone knows the more mods you do the cooler your car is, right? LOL

Assuming you meant me, Shellys_Man... I did fall of the face of the Earth. Moved from AL to CA... just got the 'Net back. Long story.
Does anyone know if the Euro-spec versions have one or two? I was aware that the Aussie versions had only one. I think, perhaps, Japan8 might have an opinion. Otherwise, I'm at a loss.
I reckon if you want to upgrade, you could. It probably wouldn't hurt. Cooler oil seems good, as long as it doesn't get too cool. I doubt you'd have much to worry about in TX, though.
Does Revolution make the other side oil cooler, or is it possible that it is "ambidextrous"... Like the mounting hardware being the same if flipped over? Just a thought.

Has anyone actually experienced cooling issues? The FD had problems keeping everything cool of course, but everything I've read about the 8 suggests its really not a weak point. Same goes with the aftermarket radiators, although if they have plastic end tanks (haven't bothered to check) an all-aluminum design would be preferable for reliability/longevity concerns.

Like I said earlier, as cool as Revolution's oil cooler looks, do we really need one? An oil temperature/pressure problem is not going to be solved with an aftermarket oil cooler. Perhaps if the RX-8 employed high-boost FI, then maybe a new oil cooler(s) may be in the works. I don't know for sure.

nah, the engine has gonzo oil cooling. it is true that the oil has to handle ~1/3 of the heat transfer responsabilities, but the twins are the largest amount of oil cooling Mazda has ever equipped a rotary with OE to date (including the R1 13BREW).

I'm planning on upgrading my oil coolers eventually like I did the radiator. Here in Phx it gets super hot and the cooler the engine can run the better. Most of us will never reach the boiling point for the oil coolers though the few of us that visit the track will probably want to do this. Of course the stock oil coolers are adequate for daily driving though if anyone plans to turbo the car, then race it, up grading the oil coolers will add to the longevity of the motor. BTW, for those who are interested the PWR radiator(same as what I have) will be instock with in the next 2 weeks. I will be working with them for the oilcoolers as well.

Yes Oz cars have only one oil cooler in the left hand side and I think I need a 2nd one on the track. I only do about 8-9 laps at a time for a day and use up about a Litre of engine oil by the end of the day. It is winter here and I think doing track is cooking the oil.
What do you think vividracing? If I only do 5 laps at a time, do I need a second cooler?
I am aiming the MazdaSpeed to put one on the right hand side.
I will be useful if I have a meter for oil temperature too right?
