Ok, dumb question: What is CAI?
This is! Hahahaha... My son and I installed my first significant mod last night in just under two hours. It was quite a bit easier than I anticipated. We also found a dead bird behind the air dam. So THAT'S what that nasty smell was a few months ago... Yuckkkkk 
This is the MS CAI. It sounds nice
Question about the install: There wasn't anything in the instructions about removing the tray that the old air filter box sits on. I was going to pull it out but it is supporting some hoses/wiring. Any advice on that?
MazdaSpeed exhaust scheduled for delivery today, hopefully have it installed tonight.

Well played sir, here I thought it was another noob seriously asking. When I had mine I just left it alone. But like stealth said removing it will increase the flow, so just devise a way to remount them. The exhaust should be easier than the intake, just get some PB blaster and it should be cake.

Well played sir, here I thought it was another noob seriously asking. When I had mine I just left it alone. But like stealth said removing it will increase the flow, so just devise a way to remount them. The exhaust should be easier than the intake, just get some PB blaster and it should be cake.
I'm really not that dense but I might as well have some fun with my mistake!You mentioned 'when' you had yours. Did you take swap it back out for something different? If so: what and why? Just curious...

Anyway, a few days later the car started really stinking. I keep it really clean so I couldn't figure it out. Then it went away. After seeing the bird last night that had to have been it. It was all dry and crunchy. It was wedged in real good so I figure it must have been during that Montana drive...

thx red! I think I know when the bird happened. I had to make a trip into Montana and I was driving, well, ummm, fast. Those passes have some irresistable turns Anyway, a few days later the car started really stinking. I keep it really clean so I couldn't figure it out. Then it went away. After seeing the bird last night that had to have been it. It was all dry and crunchy. It was wedged in real good so I figure it must have been during that Montana drive...

So something I realized after getting the intake installed last night: looks like I'll have to pull the bumper off to clean the filter. It's not that huge a deal but wondering if anyone has found any tricks that are less time consuming? Bumper removal is easy, it just takes some time. I think that was the longes single task in the whole install process.

i had the same kind of bird in the same spot like 3 weeks ago.
it was stuck between the condenser and undertray.
it didnt smell or anything but it was hollow and still had all it feathers. i was pulling it out with some pliers and pulled some out. it was nasty.

Especially after you break the brackets and lose some of the clips
