Old MS News, but Curious None the Less

Was this ever actually produced? What is with the modified PCM? Apparently they found a way to tune it better. It also mentions special spark plugs to stabilize combustion (Possible also would help the flooding issues that some people have, but I have never experienced). Anybody have any information on any of this stuff.
Thanks

well, I think the spark plugs exist (see the major horse power section) as for the ECU tune, you have to remember that the JDM market has a different quality of gas than we do (better gas BTW) so that usually allows for a more aggressive tune. In addition, I don't think the Japanese have the same laws that we do that say the Cat has to last to 120K mi, so therefore, they could run a leaner afr.
Have the ECU issues with our car stem from the new EPA law that says the Cat has to last 120K, which is why we run so rich in the top end, to keep from burning out the cat.
with the emanage, I bet you can get close to the JDM MS results, but I agree, I wish I could get a reflash ("For offroad use only") for my 8

the regulations imposed on the US market just kills power. when mazda first reported horse power they used JDM specs and forgot to tune for USDM. i would love my car to be jdm spec. granted i would have to use 93 octane but that's all i have here in Florida anyway. i have plans for high flow cats and mufflers to shoot flames lol. there is a great article at http://www.rxtuner.com/articles.php telling how difficult the 8 is to improve on. scroll down to the pic of two guys standing beside a silver rx8. great article.
