Question Otto Racing Intake...any thoughts?

I found this intake for $59 (http://procarparts.stores.yahoo.net/marx20otrapo.html ) and wondered if anyone had any comments. Its not a K&N air filter, but I'm sure I can pick one up on ebay. Intakes seem to be so overly priced for just a pipe and an air filter, its hard to justify paying $250 - 400. I know that fittment is important, that's why I'd like to see if anyone has bought one of these. Thanks!

it's not just about fitment, it's about airflow and properly going across the MAF. Without proper airflow, you'll get really crappy idle and the car will not function properly.

wouldn't buy it even if the intake was $1. All your gonna be doing is sucking hot air into your engine with this intake. and your not driving a civic so don't be cheap. Our car is a $30,000 sports car. Spend the extra money for quality cold air intakes like the Mazdaspeed or the aem, or a cold induction box that doesn't suck in hot engine air.

K&N version 2 intake got rid of the "rough Idle" issue that plagued the version 1. i think it has a heat sheild, im not sure, but you still will be sucking in hot air. i would opt for the AEM cold air intake. same price, but with the aem, you will be sucking in the air from the outside of the vehicle which will be a lot colder than the air right next to the engine. just my opinion.

Mazdaspeed CAI is suppose to be just like the AEM. Plus, you won't have any warrenty issues. It will cost about $75 more.

i've never had any warranty issues with my AEM installed. I think it's because i told the sales manager that I wanted to mod the car. He then told me that if there are any problems with the mods that I install, just bring it to the dealership, and they will fix the problem. I guess it all depends on what dealership you go to.

I still have 3 years left on my warranty, so I'll probably go with a the Mazdaspeed to avoid any hassles. Any suggestions on where to find the best price?

Version 1 suck dick, I had it and I sold it off like a month something 2 later ^0^

Version 2, heat shield, and new carbon fiber cone shape intake. You will not get hot air into the intake because, as your car moves, hot air moves back and cold come in from the front, pretty simple phsyics. Got it for a year I think ? and love it. Not noisy unless you go WOT.

AEM has a good design like always, but have fun cleaning the filter.

Mazdaspeed is an exact dupe of the AEM, if your dealship gives you any grief over it than they're retarded and not worth your time anyway. As far as the filter getting dirty, I've had mine on for about 3 months now, had the bumper off yesterday to swap grill mesh, and the filter was hardly even touched. I live in Tx, no rain, lots of contruction going on, plenty of opportunity for dust/crap/etc. and rain here and there and my filter was still fairly clean after 3 months. Intakes aren;t going to get you much (although my mileage has increased and I can feel some degree of difference in reponse), but if you're going to spend the money might as well go with what works, as opposed to what is cheap.

ive had the intake on for about 1 month. the aem has the dryflow airfilter technology. does not need to be cleaned for 1 year. cleaning is done by rinsing the filter, and then drying it. no need to oil the filter. as far as performance, there is a noticable increase in hp around 6000-9000 range. I raced my buddy's s2000 from a rolling start, and he could not pull away from me. I even got him 1 car length the 2nd time we raced. K&N 2nd gen i heard is alot better then the 1st gen. the heat sheild should keep hot engine air from getting to the filter, therefore making it a cold air intake. whichever intake you choose, you wont go wrong. happy shopping!

The cheapest I have found the Mazdaspeed intake is $398 at www.mazda-parts.com. If you can give me the dealer info for $330, that would be great. Thanks.

the dealership is located in san jose, ca. its called oaktree mazda. it's only that price because of the employee discount that the salesman gave me.

I went ahead with the MazdaSpeed intake. I'm so glad that I ponied up the extra dollars and didn't skimp on a POS intake. My dealership sold it to me for $380. It took about 3.5 hours to install and what a difference it made! I definetly pulls harder. Money well spent.
