Some high performance driving lessons is the first thing to do. Unless you know how to drive, the stock 8 is already more then fast enough to get you killed. Don't find the limits of your car by hitting a curb or flying off the edge of a cliff. Find them on a closed course, and then only approach those limits on a closed course.

As far as starting mods, AFE short shifter is fantastic. it will really make shifting nicer, you can feel the syncros working and just generally makes your shifts feel more precise, It can make shifting faster too, but I'm of the school of thought that a happy transmission is one that is not jammed into gear as fast as hard as possible. (and why would you need to shift faster, given the 8's throttle response, it's about perfect where it is.)

The second thing I'd reccomend is a set of lighter wheels and better tires. I went from stock potenzas to Falken RT 615's and the amount of grip I gained was amazing. Good tires are essential, and they're overlooked way to often. Don't cheap out on them!

Lighter rims will increase your acceleration a bit, and gives you the opportunity to dramatically change your cars look.

But as others have said, don't just start slapping mods on. find the things you don't like about the car and work from there.

Yeah I would listen to alot of these posts. Do some research and find out your goal with the car. And no performance mod is gonna be inexspensive. If your looking for inexspensive mods you have purchased the wrong car.

no offense, but being 16 you are an inexperienced driver. Before you start changing the suspension, take a few driving schools to learn the limits of the car how it is. From there you can research suspension part (i.e. spring, struts, coilovers, sway bars, struts towers) to figure out what you want the car to do that you cant stock. the RX8 stock is an excellent machine for handling everyday roads so learn that first.

This is how I would spend $1,000 if I was still in High School:
Catback Exhaust - learn more HERE
Cold Air Intake - THIS is a club favorite
thanks for the advice =)
