Performance mods under $200?
#26
For some decent mods for a tiny bit of performance/aesthetics/comfort. These aren't in any particular order, just what came to my mind first.
1. Axial Flow Short Shifter ~250
2. K&N Drop In Filter/remove baffles/1 screen from intake ~50
3. Lowering Springs ~160 for Tein S-Tech (I had them and they were great)
4. A good car wash/polish/wax. Price depends on how far you really want to take it and how bad your paint is.
5. Tint ~100-150
6. Basic maintenance including tranny/diff/engine oils, plugs/wires/coils, coolant, brake fluid flush. Again price will depend on how much needs to be done
7. Racing Beat Ram Air Duct ~135
8. Racing Beat AC/Oil Cooler Protective screens ~100
Keep in mind that none of these mods are major, and are probably only slight improvements or just protective measures that you can make.

You will not gain any significant power NA. Especially for 200 bucks.
If you can save up another 150 or so and can deal with not having your car for a week... get the racing beat flash. That is an excellent choice for a small dollar amount.
The lowering springs will do nothing but aesthetics without an aftermarket strut to go along with them. Also, the install will make this a much LARGER cost than just the springs themselves.
Seriously, after you get the RB flash save your money for one of the following.
1. a lightweight flywheel
2. lightweight rims
3. Mazsport Ignition Solution
4. Mazsport Dual Resonated Midpipe
5. Drop in airfilter (Rmagic, or k&n)
6. An introductory level coilover system or a spring/shock combo (followed of course by a good alignment)
A lot of us have wasted money to find out the hard way a lot of mods do little more than use up a lot of money at the end of the day. These are ones I would recommend the most.

MarkGuy - SE3P is just playin you like a piano, just to watch you react......
For Mr. Nitro, you won't get much bang for your $200, the best I can suggest is a front anti-sway bar, that is do-able for the bucks, and put it on yourself as a good reason to get down and dirty with your '8.
....but I would probably just go buy the polish that smells the best and spend some quality time with the paint!

Actually, I retract my last statement. I found a couple mods that are below $200 and are proven to give you gains. Here are four items that should help your RX-8 gain power.

Investing is spending. Investing is not putting it under a mattress. When you put money in a bank CD they now have more capital to lend to home owners, businesses, etc. When you buy stocks you're putting that money into a corporation so they can use it to grow.
But I agree on the two chicks at the same time.

My generation? I'm but 7-8 years older than you.

honestly for $200 you cant get anything that would help performance. im running N/A and spent about 7 or 8k on my car and I probably gained 10hp max. Things i would recomend getting for that price is. Grounding Kit, used midpipe, used intake, brighter HID's, spoiler, eyelids, tints, a lot of cleaning supplies, camera for nice pics of car, steel brake lines, car cover, front or rear strut bar, clear corners, rotary rasp footwell lights, and you gotta have a rotary lanyard and key chain from http://www.rotary13b1.com/keychain4.html . This is all i can think of at the moment. Any combination of these would be nice first mods

Here's your best option - make sure the maintenance is up to date. If not your engine is more of a ticking bomb than it already is. Sorry us 04's don't have it good. How many miles? According to Maintenance Scheldule 2 every...
30K service = trans, diff fluids, brake fluid
35K service = air filter, plugs (and should include: coils & wires)
48 months = Coolant (every 24 months after that)

Intakes are a waste. Just do the airbox mod and a drop in. Same sound, less cost. https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ght=airbox+mod
