Please Make Sticky - Appeal to Racing Beat for ECU Tuning / Piggyback
*Rotary God, please make this sticky*
I wanted to start a thread to appeal to forum members to contact Racing Beat and request them fast track some form of ECU flash/ ECU piggyback device. It seems that so many of our issues, from HP, mileage, idle vibration, NA and FI tuning, could all be solved if they could some how unlock or allow us to alter the A/F and timing maps.
The trouble is, I don’t think they’d heard it from enough people. They obviously basis there work and projects on demand, and I think if enough of us appealed to them to really focus on this we could get something before year end.
We certainly don’t want to annoy Racing Beat with this campaign. Racing Beat has always been good about listening to our ideas and concerns, so I think this could make a difference. We have to prove to them that this is something that they can make money on, even if the HP gains are minimal.
The following is Racing Beat’s contact info, email address, and a short email template you can use to speed the process up.

I am a member of rx8club.com and I wanted to express my interest in Racing Beat developing a ECU flash / ECU piggyback unit for the RX8. While I realize that the horsepower gains would likely be very moderate, the ability to modify the ECU A/F and timing tables throughout the RPM band would make tuning the car much easier. In addition, there would likely also be the potential for gas mileage improvements. It appears that the ECU has been the holdup in many aftermarket forced induction kits, and the only current simple remedies (Emanage) are not totally sufficient. Thank you for your efforts to make the RX8 such an enjoyable car to drive.
Regards,

That's a good idea, but I think they have one in the works already. But if this could speed it up or even give them ideas for different features and whatnot that would be great. I got class now but I'll send an email a bit later. Good idea Brillo! :D

racingbeat has already released in rotarytuner why they havent released a ecu piggy back yet , and it was because they didnt find a significant difference in NA applications to warrant releasing this product i believe. If im wrong, you can correct me but yah..
plus i dont think rotary god is an admin here....

good deal, thanks guys. I don't want them to think this is spam, but I think a concerted effort to show our interest will go along way. Racing Beat has got most of their other mods for our car out or nearly finished, intake, exhaust, suspension, shocks, flywheel, etc..... so I hope they have capacity to work on this now.
To really take our cars to the next level, this element is key.

Just got a reply from Jim on the ECU interest here's what they had to say:
QUOTE:
"Jim Mederer, Racing Beat's co-founder and chief engineer, has been working on the ECU project for several months. We initially faced the challenge of just accessing the programming and data information on the ECU, and then we needed to find a way to reflash the ECU with any changes that were made. Since this was our first real venture into this very complex subject, we were learning as we progressed.
Over the past several months, we have been able to view and change the critical data with regards to timing, mixture, etc... we have run many different data programs on the engine dyno, but as we have stated, these changes have only revealed minor HP changes. It is probably unlikely that we will stumble onto something that will unlock some huge 10-20 HP increase, but more likely we can make a more few minor improvements.
Many people are inquiring about improved fuel economy. Since our primary objective has been to find MORE power, we haven't concentrated on improving fuel economy.
We are currently working on a project to retune the stock ECU to function with a specific aftermarket turbo application. This is not a kit that we are considering offering, but a R&D project that we have been asked to conduct for a third party. Ah, you might be thinking, "Will you offer a turbo ECU reflash for MY aftermarket turbo kit?" Since every turbo application tends to be different, offering a "generic" reflash for a turbo application may not be appropriate for your exact application. "
Best regards,

With custom ecu on canzoomer a friend of mine has come up with only 12whp at the moment and he believes he can go to 20whp...But not 40hp at tthe crank as cz says..Its impossible here with the very hot temps....With 20whp i believe we are good....
I really trust rb though and i believe they will make a way through this and we will be able for some more hps...

Well with cz midp-4,rb revi-greddy sp2 and some transmittion mods like ms clutch disc+cover+clutch hose+rp short shifter+ms flywheel,i believe i have a good basis for that number of whp with cz...but i don't really know if i should buy cz full package or wait some time more for something better...Now the only thing i wait is the ram air from rb this summer which will stick nice with the revi and maybe in chrismas ms radiator just because it can't get out of my mind..!! :D
