pls help me!!! full exhaust system needed... from header

Hi guys,

I'm supercharging my rx8 soon... got it 2nd hand at a very cheap price.... (and has been approved by the company themselves as well)

So I guess I'll need an exhaust system... (do I???) I'm a novice at modifying..... so I would appreciate help... and patience... ;-)

I'm after a titanium/carbon fibre exhaust to lose weight.... i plan to track the car. I'm also after a fairly quiet exhaust at low revs and a deep deep sound.... i don't like the sound of hymee as such (no offense Hymee... I live in perth (WA) and I know your products are great.

so here goes
1) I need a new exhaust system to to help flow and reduce back pressure right?

2) What's the difference between mid-pipe system / cat-back system / head-back system

3) Would i need to change the header, mid-pipe, exhaust, and catalyc converter (to keep it legal) all at once?

4) Is it better to get everything from one brand, in one range, or mix 'n' match your own system? I would suppose a whole set would be better right?

5) What is the difference between a twin exit and a single exit xhaust

6)Which is lighter? Titanium/carbon fibre (i'm seriously considering racing beat)

7) It would be better to get a 3" tailpipe because i'm going FI right?

8) what other things sizes wise should I consider?

9) pls let me know if I had not considered anything else?

I know it's alot of questions.. But pls help me... I've tried reading up the terminology and things as such... even on wikipedia... but I'm a real novice who have been interested in the rx8 since 2003.... (I just bought mine 4 months ago and loving it). Going Supercharged at this time of the year is unexpected... and I'd really like to know as much as possible before i install it.

Thanks guys

If you are from australia (?) and are going to Supercharge this is your best option

http://www.smb.net.au/fullexhaustsystems-mazdarx8.htm

1, Yes you do, badly

2,Header from engine and down, midpipe is mid section with or without cat, catback from midpipe and back

3, yes for most effect

4, yes

5, the answer is in your question

6, they are not true titanium our carbon (specially not carbon) my guess (and this is a guess) is that you will loose more money then you gonna loose weight

7, aim for true 3" system for less backpressure

Lennart https://www.rx8club.com/members/lennart-8437/ has a SMB exhaust on his 330whp supercharged RX-8, he can give you more info I think.

2.75" = 70mm, BFD ...

looks almost like they copied most of my STU exhaust, probably heavy tho ....

I've got AP exhaust, fluid midpipe and fluid headers.. My car is a BEAST. So loud.. It rarely backfires, though.. The good thing about having a dual resonated midpipe is that with low throttle you can make the car basically silent. Only problem is going up hills

I'm going supercharged too, that's why I got the headers. You don't need it, but it will add power.

There are SO many FI installs people do on RX-8s that don't even use the club to research with. Alot of people probably just slap turbos on and call it a day, blow their motor, sell the car, call it crap, etc..

At least he happened to come here, find us, and ask ^_^ Maybe he'll read all the replies and learn something, perhaps it will spark him to research abit...

thanks for standing up for me..... I am doing my research... Lots of it.... I'm actually constantly reading up on threads while I wait for the replies....

Thing is... The forums can sometimes be to broad and get kinda sidetracked...(like we are doing now.... Hehehe)... So that makes it even harder for a novice like me to get some real answers....

I'm also speaking to a few rotary specialist as well... One thing the mechanic did say is I would be better off using mandrel bent headers? What's the advantage there??

(PS: 2 of my friends are helping me install.... They are by no means novice... I guess what I'll be doing on that day is assist them and try to learn and do as much as I can... It's not everyday you get to Supercharge a car.... Hehehe...)

Mandrel bent rather then crush bending , Has smooth bends for better flow , Maybe has less welds on it etc.
