Potential New Owner, Questions....

I am looking to replace my 1992 Mitsu Galant VR4, well modded, with a 2004 RX8. I took it out for a drive, and although it drove very nicely, I was disappointed with the power. I live in California which is a pain when it comes to modifying cars, which is why I am selling my Galant. Can someone give me an idea of what are California smog legal mods that will substantially increase power? Or is there any? From what I read, an intake is pointless as well as the exhaust (10hp tops).
Thanks!

A midpipe will add power, but you'll get busted for it quick in CA. A custom tune, BHR ignition coils, and an intake is about all that will give you power short of nitrous or FI. If you live in CA and are worried about making more power in an RX8, I wouldn't buy it. The list of effective bolt ons is small enough and you already can't have one of the best ones because of where you live. You'd probably be better off with something like an Evo or STi depending on what you're looking for.

there is virtually nothing of substance you can do to add power and stay Cali legal(CARB certified)
