Question about exhaust
Hi, after reading some threads.......I'm totally confused.......
from what my little brain can deduce
exhaust = the muffler thinging and a pipe..........
but then theres a catalytic converter
so I want to change my exhaust.....but still be street legal and pass emissions
that means that the exhausts that are like 500-600 are only for the muffler and a pipe and the catalytic converter would be stock right?
so if then I hear that if you take out the cat, it be much faster......but then it wouldn't be street legal........so how do you make it street legal?
someone please explain to me....im totally confused

if you remove any part of the factory emissions system, the "cat" or otherwise, it is illegal. There is no way to get around this.
Muffler + connecting pipe $500-$1000
hi flow cat or delete pipe $300-$500
headers ~$1000
so probably in the range of $2000 if you wanted a "full exhaust" system.

Some states don't do a visual inspection, they just stick a sniffer in your tailpipe. So a hi-flow cat unit will allow you to pass. In Cali. they also do a visual inspection, but most mom & pop gas stations that are "smog test certified" won't know what a stock cat looks like.

huh??? i'm stumped.
cops are not retards you know? neither are they deaf.
i think they would know how a regular import sports car sound like...and of course how a ferrari and lamborghini sound like.
sure those pure sports cars will be a bit louder...but they pay a lot higher taxes on those i assume. but at which rate...it should still pull under 95 decibels under low rpm range. there's a guideline as to whats acceptable and what isn't.
i had my honda referee'd at a local college, and its a straight through cannister and passed at 93db @3k rpm.
just some FYI. mod how you want, but stay under 95db at all cost...or be far from 90db to avoid the harassment in the first place.

oh, and to add...if you own a lamborghini, most likely you won't give a rats *** about a ticket. and neither is a cop gonna chase you. if you got that much $$$, i'm sure you already know someone to take care of it for you.
the world isn't fair...where have you been?

Muffler's and resonators aren't involved in emissions...they have to do with sound level...u can change both as much as you like as long as it stays under the sound limit 95dB i think
cat's are apart of emissions...removing it is illegal...period...
its just that most states dont check for it and/or dont care...
to be legal..one needs a cat and to be under the sound limit...thats it...no confusion
