2 things:
1. Hymee got 10-12 horsepower with his header right? I wonder what the differences are.
2. I remember a long long time ago when MazdaManiac first installed his turbo he said something about the OEM header being double walled. At least I think? Is that true?

2. It is indeed double walled for heat shielding,,, thats one important thing to remember when putting on a new aftermarket header, your gonna have a whole lot more heat coming up into the engine bay....

RX 8 with the racing beat header
Here's a vid of an 8 with the header plus other mods. Not much reving, but I think you can hear the difference. Not my car BTW.

The header is very nice. The car has stronger mid range(mine has racing beat street flash, mazsport midpipe, hymee exhaust and green filter in stock intake) and it pulls harder at the top. I also notice that the rev climb a bit faster too. The car sound very nice with this header. The fitment was perfect. It just difficult when installing it because of tight space. I got the header for $495 from Racing Beat.
Regarding whether to coat it or not, the tech I talked to told me not to coat the header because it may cause header to crack later on. Rotary runs hotter than piston engine and with coating the heat stay in the header instead of cooling off faster. He recommend me to run it the way it is. So far I don't notice the engine bay run any hotter than what it normally would.
I live in Rogers, MN so if anyone in the area interested just let me know. I will be more than happy to show you the set up.

Via RBs site on its header,,, does this translate into "will not throw a CEL" still debating between the RB and the Fluid Motorsports...
The Racing Beat RX-8 header is constructed using 100% stainless steel for superior quality, performance and appearance. Our exclusive cast stainless-steel mounting flange has been designed to allow the smooth transition of the exhaust gas flow from the engine to the primary tubing. Incorporated into the flange design are critical emission control air passages that were included on the OEM flange design. These small passages allow air to be pumped into the exhaust ports to aid in more efficient catalytic converter function. While this header is not considered “emissions legal” for street use, our header does not remove any catalytic converters, and is equipped with an oxygen sensor fitting and retains all emissions control functionality

yea greg u got alota RB stuff. i orderd the gauge pod for my turbo when i order it nxt month.
i seen a video on sum site with a 8 on the dyno with a aftermarket header and it turned a bright red/orange. so i think tht is single walled. but tht is good for the winter, u get hotter faster :-D.

Yes, I could not agree more! I installed mine 3 weeks or so ago and the car has stronger lower rpm and mid range pull. Top end seem to pull stronger too. I have racing beat street flash and mazsport midpipe on my car. As for the sound, it sounds a bit louder from outside of the car. It sounds sweet from inside of the car. I have my video on youtube. Actually someone on the forum already post my video.

Yeh that is my car in the video. My dad took the video while I drove it on the street behind my townhome. I used to be on this site for a while and somehow lost my password and has to registered so I can post again. Took me couple days before I can post anything. Glad that it works now.

For those that wonder about the OBX some of them have the air ports connected. The way to tell is if the port is deep enough inside the header, a small square hole in the side of the port tells if it is a finished design or the half finished design. It sports a high grade stainless manifold as well. I had both versions of OBX at one point and saw the difference.
The downside was the finished with functional ports had to be trimmed on the bottom edge of the manifold needed to be ground down because otherwise it would not connect up to the engine.
The one that does not have functional fit the engine perfectly.
To be on the safe side I would recommend the Racing Beat over the OBX because fitment will be perfect unless it has been previously installed or tools are on hand if grinding needs to be done. We put it on a lathe with a diamond bit otherwise it would have taken hours to grind the small bit it needed... Very hard material.
