Racing Beat Intake

I was talking to Racing Beat today, and it appears they will be releasing a intake kit (sounds like a cold air) in the not to distant future. Form the guys description, its parts you add to the stock air box, including a cone filter and a pipe tha goes into the nose of the car (guess this part is for the cold air). He said it netted 7WHP across the board, which isn't bad. Sounds like they are aiming for under $250 but don't hold me to that. They are in the process of getting the parts fabricated as we speak.

Just thought I would share this tid bit.

Very nice. I think I will be getting this unit. 7 whp is way more than I thought. I was thinking 3-3.5 hp like their exhaust.

Interesting... Did you ask about the secondary intake? I wonder if they are doing away with it??

didn't know about the secondary intake, to be honest, I had kinda written off intakes really doing anything for our cars, therefore I haven't spent much time looking at the stock piece and its design, I was probing to see if they were doing a FI kit for our car. I know they are not, but RB has done some FI testing for Mazda, and it seems the more I talk to them the more juicy little bits I get out of them.

also, wonder how well that pipe would work with aftermarket body kits...hmm...i would assume it would work just fine with RB's kit (which I can't wait to see)...only 26 more days until they unveil it

not sure, I'm imagining there will be a website post with a dyno graph, when it will be available will depend on getting the parts fabricated, the guy made it sound like they were having a issue with the fabricators, nothing bad, just a bit of a delay.

Their latest newsletter gave no ETA. They said they were finished with the prototyping, and were just trying to set up the fabrication process to start mass production. That's the same answer I got on the phone the other day, and it sounds like the same thing they told brillo. Trust me when I say I've been bugging them about this fairly often. :D

Im interested in seeing this as well. I was not planning on doing anything to my intake yet because it seems like all they do is make noise. If this is as good as it seems, you can count me in on a buy.

Their unit DOES replace the stock airbox; I've seen it. It's actually very nice looking. The prototype I saw was made of metal, however the production units will be plastic similar to the stock airbox.

I plan on going to the Sevenstock event in September so hopefully they'll have more definitive info as to how much, when shipping, etc. I'm going to get one for sure. Jim did NOT give me any specific hp numbers so I don't know about the 7 whp part; sounds a bit high to me for just an intake. I was led to believe it would be more in the 3-5 hp range but maybe they got better results than expected. He also didn't give any price; he said they wouldn't know until they got them into production.

I'll get whatever info I can, including pictures (if allowed to share them) when I go to Sevenstock, which is September 11. They're supposed to roll out the new body kit too that day so I'll get photos of that as well.

care to elaborate?

is it anything like the CAI extension they sell for the 3rd gen RX-7s?

That piece looks like the stock airbox but extends into the bumper area which collects cool air.

that one is only $97

I'll wait until Sevenstock when I can talk to Jim to see if he'll let me take some photos and post them online. If he says yes, I'll take as many detailed shots as I can. Hopefully by then they'll have a definite price and target date for availability.

It is interesting that on their website they state that modifying the air intake gives about 2 hp. If it does indeed give 7 whp it should be a great aftermarket part for the money. I really was expecting the air intake and the exhaust (+3 hp) to give only about 5-6 hp. Anything after that is just gravy.

The cool air must really be making the difference. I too have been an intake skeptic--looking forward to seeing the production version.

September 12, 2004 Racing Beat will be unvieling their all new RB RX-8 body kit. There will also be other RENESIS related developments for all to see, so I bet it will be their intake. I'll be there with camera in one hand and checkbook in the other. :D

Bodykit?

I thought RB is just making a front lip and a rear wing?

no sideskirts and no rear..

Well anyhow.....now i have to wait till Sevenstock to see what RB is coming out with ... ARg.... i just got my pay check and i was going to spend it on a full KS-Auto Burnout bodykit ..... but now i 'll wait abit i guess... if the RB lip is nice and (im sure cheaper than the Burnout lip) then i'll see what i can do...
