I'm doing the same thing, just waiting until the ram air tube is ready, then order them all and install them all at once

... at least that's what i'm telling myself so I don't spend more money than what I'm already spending now :o

Hah, I thought about that, but my question was more whether or not it could come like that from the factory. I wanted to know if maybe the decals or whatever they are could come off, but yes spray paint is always an option.

I'd prefer dark grey or red... perhaps when the ram air kit comes out I'll pick up an airbox, the ram air, and the ac and oil grills so I can do everything at one time as I'm not a big fan of taking my bumper off again.

heck, if you discount a package deal I might even get an exhaust...

Just finished install, I am very pleased with the intake overall, sounds GREAT from 5-9K, and feels to pull a little stronger. Overall fog lights were a pain in the ***, figured out if you use a very small screwdrive to pop the clip it comes off easy, also taking the bumper off a little bit and then working on the fog lights was a lot easier. Thank you RB for a quality product! My decision on exhausts has been made due to this, RB Exhaust next!

nah he said "box" which i think he means airbox and since he was saying how bright the colors were i believe he means the plastic used for the moldings since plastics tend to be primaries

The bumper really is a piece of cake to remove. It is that first time that you do it that freaks you out. I have had mine on/off 5 times now. I just wish that the back bumper would work the same. That one has me perplexed...

I want to work on the fake black grill work to expose those Beautiful Racing Beat REV8 mufflers!

So, don't wait to long guys to make this mod - because there might not be enough highway left that I have not burned up lately... :D

Funny you mentioned the rear grills. I asked Jim Langer last summer if they could make inserts to match the oil cooler covers. I think he thought I was from Mars or something. The SS cans would look great though through the SS mesh.

Got up early this morning and installed the intake before work. I noticed improved throttle response right away. I can also feel it pull harder, especially at higher rpms. The sound is also really great. Its pretty quiet when you're just cruising around, but now you really hear the "snarl" of the Renesis when you get on it. It makes me turn off the stereo just so I can hear more of that wonderful sound. The sound has a refined quality to it, its not simply "real loud", like my other car. The intake really goes great with the REV8 exhaust as well. At first I was actually thinking of getting the HKS intake kit, but now I'm really glad I waited. I was a little apprehensive at first about taking the whole front bumper off, but the instructions were very good and it was actually pretty easy. I see that some people struggled with the foglights, but I got the clips off mine with no problems. (It probably helps too that my car is pretty new and doesn't really have any buildup of dirt and stuff yet.) On a side note, my neighbors who just recently got a RX-8 now want to get the same stuff I have so their car can sound cool like mine. :D

Ok I just got my 8 2 weeks ago, so maybe I'm a newbie, but one thing that i consider obvious is the VFAD in the intake (before mods). Like I said I may be new (and if there is an experienced person here who knows why not, please school me), but seeing as my 8 gains SIGNIFICANTLY more power/acceleration above 5k rpm and that just happens to coincide with the opening of the VFAD valve/damper/whatever , is there any reason NOT to remove/reconfigure the sensor that opens it up above 5k rpm to be fully open all the time anyway ? I am looking for easy obvious performance enhancements here and this one seems logical to me as a first step (unlesss of course you guys know a reason not to). Your thoughts please........

Racing Beat states the AFAD is for noise control only, and offers no performance value. I have no reason to doubt them.

i believe the shutter for the vfad is controlled via vacum pressure...there isn't a sensor that you could reconfigure to open it sooner...just take it off :D

racingbeat says removing it only adds like 2 db or somethign like that..not a huge difference..adn just removing it adds liek 2-3 hp or somethign like that. just my .02

What are everyone's opinions on installing this intake on a BRAND NEW RX-8?!

Would it be wise to install it right away or wait until the initial break in period is complete? (1000 miles or so)

Any rotary experts wanna help me out on this one? (RG: hint hint, wink wink...)

Did it on mine at about ~4K miles (2.5 months old) and I absolutly love it. No problems at all.

it would just be louder by opening the vfad all the time on the stock intake. it wouldnt add any power. the RB REVI intake box flows more air all the time than the stock so removing the VFAD for it is necessary as it would be a restiction in the way.

What can someone expect if they replace the airtake prior to having a new catback? Does it make sense or have any benefits?

Yes and yes. I have the intake and haven't changed anything else other than getting the RB exhaust. It makes a very pleasing difference. The engine performs better, period. I can't say much about mileage because I just can't keep my foot out of it long enough to do a mileage run....I love the way this thing sounds now! And the way it pulls when you step on the gas reminds me very much of a big jungle cat; strong, powerful, no flashy show.....just pure business.

I can only imagine how much better an RB intake/exhaust combo would work with a low restriction catback.

ummmm, The RB exhaust is a cat back! Maybe your trying to say adding a hi-flow cat or mid-pipe would work better. Then, I would say you're correct!

I have had the intake on four about two weeks now. As fas as mileage goes, around town I probably get another 10 miles out of the TANK.

But on the highway is where I noticed a big dfiference. I actually got 23.7 MPG this weekend, on both legs of the trip. The best I had gotten before was about 21, close to 22. So on the highway it actually seems to improve mileage.

My first tank after installing the intake was +1.5 MPG - not statistically significant -yet. But I have a feeling that the MPG has increased. Especially given how I was driving on that tank! :D It's hard to drive without pushing it and feeling the benefits of the REVi!

As far as needing a catback, I don't have one and I REALLY noticed the intakes performace gains. i have no plans for getting a catback since I don't want to sound too loud. I do plan on getting a high-flow cat.
