lmao - I looked at that pic last night and thought he had it backwards as well. Did a double take and saw the indentation on the right side where the air sensor sits...he read the instructions!

Not sure if its the glare in the pic or what but it really does look backwards.


On a side note - I just pulled 303.6 miles out of a tank of gas - city, ac on all the time.

What improvements/issues can I expect if I install the RB Ram Air with my stock intake? Will the car sound different? Can I expect a 0.5 to 1 mpg improvement?

I'm asking because its seems that everyone using the Ram Air has the REVi installed and I'd still be using the stock intake.

If you are going to do that, you might have to disable the Vfad make sure to ask before doing this...

with the stock airbox/RB ram air combo, you will not get the the sealed ducting for the 'ram air' effect, at most you will only gain the benefit of cold air being fed into the stock air box.

as for gas mileage improvement, i suspect it will be minimal at best :o

The Cold Air will be a huge Plus to a OEM air box.. It is a very wise investment and IMO a better investment to keep the OEM air box and run the RAM then say a K & N Snorkle..

Also if your going to run just the Ram be sure to put in a Green or a MazdaSpeed Drop in Low restriction Filter in your OEM box.. I ran a Green drop in and loved it. ! ( till i got the RB intake )

IF the ram air would seal up to the stock box it would be worth it - it doesn't though so its about as effective as mounting a piece of plastic behind the grill to redirect the airflow up to the general vicinity

I have the REVi right now.

Can anyone honestly say that they have seen performance gains from the Ram Air Duct?

Or are most of you guys just getting this to complete the set?

Have any of you seen any gains at all? Mileage? Highway driving? City Driving? Throttle Response?

Plus, have any of you taken it out in a rain? any problems with derbis yet?

My 8 is my daily driver/weekend warrior, would this be a good mod for me?

I can honestly say that I feel a bit more power at speed and every tank of fuel since the install has yielded better MPG than pre-duct for similar driving. Currently 238 miles and 1/4 tank left. My 8 is my daily driver also and the better mileage is a plus. I got the duct just because RB made it and I can't seem to let well enough alone . On this one I'm truely not sorry though. For my use it is very worthwhile and would probably do well even if I didn't have the REVi. I've only been in the rain with it once and had no problems. Knowing RB, they tested it extensively for wet conditions. As Nemesis8 noted in a previous post there is a scraper built into the duct designed to separate water from air and drain it out through holes at the base of the duct. Bang for the buck it a good value IMO.

Yesterday we installed one on "waterlogged" ride.
Fit and instructions where great!
As for how it drives? Waterlogged needs to comment on that.

Oil coolers, Radiator screen and Revi where mounted at the same time.

Ordered mine when I saw that it could work with my HKS intake.

I got my REVi intake two days ago, still waiting for the duct. Should get it Monday or Tuesday. Really looks like it will really get some air up to the engine.

Man, I must have really lucked out. Not only does my dealer not hassle me about mods, they actually will install them for me if I can't do it myself. :D

Just came back from a 300 mile trip to Palm Springs. Drove in 95+ Degree temp all day, with the A/C on above 70% of the drive. Hehe I've just broken my MPG record with 22.45, and that was not keeping the speed under 73mph the whole time either! While getting gas right before turning into my home, while checking for oil level, I touched the REVi box, and it was cooler than ever before. On the performance side, I know it's hard to tell any real gaines in our cars due to it's low torque nature, but I felt with the same throttle and time, it hit a higher speed sooner than before. As far as the ram air effect, I think the best way to test it, we need to find a buddy that we've ran against before and test again at high speed. The ram air duct test on first long trip got a score of A+ from me.

well i have to retract my earier entry in which i said that i felt that this item was overpriced. it seems injection molding is expensive and i saw this item thru a friend. Charlie at Mazcare. It's very well made and attaches in a very secure manner. Clearly a lot of thought went into this. I ended up buying one and we installed it in the club section parking lot at Barber Racetrack in Birmingham ALa.(we meet the speed source guys too---very cool-- and yes they won!) yesterday. We drew a little crowd while doing it and it was done in about 30 mins. Already notice better gas milage(no specifics yet) and It does feel a little stronger at speed(subjective impression). I also like the cool sucking sound on the outside of the car when you rev the engine a little. You all already know i like cool air and this does the trick. I have also discover a much better way of sealing the intake and box together rather than the foam gasket stuff RB sends. It's a Home Depo iteam and I will get the offical title/part number and post it. It is a rubber 4"short tube that fits into the steel frame where the air duct is.

od you lucky bastard! I just realised this morning that the GrandAm was yesterday. I'm only a three hour drive from there. Darn it. Didn't even see it on TV. Guess my trip up to Brimingham earlier this month threw me off (didn't have a choice tho, a big old storm was headed our way). Good to hear that the 8 wins there again!


Thanks for the great info and feedback on this thread from everyone! I'm ordering my revi and duct next month. The RB exhaust the month after. I love having my car paid off!

just installed mine this afternoon, i haven't had a the chance to 'really' open it up (that'll have to wait til the next track day before winter comes :p ), but couple things i did notice right away:

- it's definitely louder when on the throttle, but not loud enough to give you a headache :D
- i took a 50 mile drive right after installing it, mostly highway, and I'm already noticing the fuel needle slowing down on its way down to E :D
- it may just be because i had the radio turned off since i usually have something playing on the radio when i drive, but i noticed all the little mechanical sounds that i didn't notice before, perhaps the VFAD tube also had the effect of silencing those sounds as well as intake sound?

i'll report back after a full week's of commuting traffic :D

You really surprise me Oldragger.

I told you it was a good item to buy. You must be wise. you had to see it in person before you spent the money.

It works great on the track. Especially when it's 100 degrees out. I think we have an advantage with this CAI as compared to those heat soaking turbo's on the track when it's this hot.

I passed quite a few turbo's, and this is the only thing that I can think of that allowed me to do it. :D

yes, RB saying "works with stick airbox" really means "ram air will blow air in the general area of the stock airbox"... very deceiving

so I drove to work with the Revi/cold air duct setup for the first time this morning.

apparently my butt dyno was out of whack yesterday afternoon, probably because i was exhausted from sitting in the sun all day installing it. This morning the butt dyno noticed definite improvement in the power dept with the RB intake setup. Nothing drastic, but what I would describe as a 'firmer' acceleration when pushing the gas pedal down, very nice :D

and it looks like i'm gonna break my old weekly commute gas mileage record on this tank :D
