RE-medy cooling product opinions

The RE-medy products have been around for more tha 2 years now and I thought it would be a good idea to ask the users to voice their honest thoughts and experience with our products . Ease or difficulty of installation, customer service or lack thereof, shipping time, observed differences in temps, time to operating temps, time needed to reduce temps etc. By the way, the themostats have been on the market now just a few months. It's been my greatest joy serving people from Greece, Spain, Singapore, Australia,China, Germany, Canada, UAE, Hawaii, Sweden, Great Britain, Italy, Cyprus and possibly more.

Im One of the first to get Re-Medy water pump.

Probably the first one to get the Re-Medy Radiator

one of the first to receive the Mazmart Thermostat

so yeah, lemme voice my opinion.

Water pump --- before I install the water pump, If I keep my engine running @ high rpm (7000+ rpm) I see my water temp spike up fast and not coming back down. After I install the pump, water temp is more stable at high rpm. One thing I wanna say is, the pump didnt come with any installation instruction(s). I know its the same as OE and if anybody is too stupid to look up the FSM before installing it, he/she shouldn't even buy it in the first place. but hey, sometimes I might get lazy and I dont want to print the FSM out/dont want to take my laptop out in the sun ...

Radiator --- Before Re-Medy rad I was using Koyo, seriously speaking Koyo is not bad IF there is nothing behind the radiator blocking air flow ... and we all know how much space we have behind the radiator so ... With Re-Medy Rad, Sometimes when I go up hill(or going up a bridge, like Williamsburg bridge) I notice my water temp will spike up to around 110 Celsius. but as soon as Im on the middle of the bridge/level surface or going downhill, the temp will drop so fast back down to around 85 Celsius or so. Im not sure if its the Radiator or Gravity cuz I didnt have real time water temp gauge installed before I install this rad. There was a slight fitment issue with my Radiator, it's been too long I dont even remember which mounting hole gave me that little problem. I still installed it without incident. The bottom plug could be better, or re-use stock plug. cuz Im always afraid of over tighten it might strip the heads and kill the whole Radiator. Koyo re-use stock drain plugs and will probably never have this problem. Installation instructions with pictures will be a + "_

Re-Medy Thermostat --- I only had it in my car for a few weeks, then I took it out to test my engine. and I haven't have time to put it back yet. Too busy with my 7 lately ... anyway, it did what it supposed to do --- lower the initial Open temperature to around 78 Celsius, Im not sure what is the Full open Temperature cuz there is no way to tell on my gauge. but with it installed, I can have cooler coolant for longer. I will reinstall it back to my 8 when Im done with my 7, which is probably this or next week. Again, Installation instructions with pictures will be a +

+1 on the waterpump--i track a good bit and while recognizing that cooling is a system not one part--i needed the extra kick this pump gave me when i installed a secondary radiator.
This is a must have part for the true enthusiast.

I have one of the first water pumps as well as the thermostat

High rpm capacity is improved and the car runs cooler now with the thermoSTAT

I will see how total system cooling is improved as time goes on...so far 2 thumbs up for these products

I was just thinking about the Mazmart products (water pump/thermostat) on my car today. It was 107 degrees today. There I was driving down the free way looking at my coolant temps on my AP. 198 degrees and the AC was going. The other day it was 115 and my coolant temps were at 205.

I just want to say thanks to Paul and all the Mazmart crew for their ongoing dedication to the RX8 community.

Paul, it's funny you created this thread because on the recent vegas trip, Easy_E1, Mazdamaniac, and I were filling up at a gas station and guess what we were alll talking about; your cooling products!!

The RE-medy water pump was the first product I purchased from you and I can say with absolute certainty that it has had a great impact on my coolant temperatures. I"ve had the luxury of real-time digital gauges for some time and what I noticed is that the temps are quicker to come down with this pump. MUCH better job at higher revolutions.

RE-medy Thermostat: another great product!
We had a little shipping issue with this product and Paul was EXTREMELY quick to address the issue and wouldn't rest until it was resolved. This is the level of service I have come to expect from Paul. Thank you.
the T-stat is a great addition to anyone looking to control the temps a little more. Keep in mind that the T-stat is the true 'gatekeeper' to the cooling system and this one helps out quite a bit.

My current cooling setup = RE-medy Water pump, BHR radiator, RE-medy T-stat: I could NOT be any happier. Thanks for all you do for us Paul.

Still not convinced on the thermostat and have not seen anything that would change that here or anywhere else - you did ask for opinions although I have yet to try it ......

as you know i have all, and they do work as stated.. on the road. i rarely see over 187 deq.

and on the track well the fans dont run long after i finish.. i was not allowed to take the laptop with me to data log..

since then i have done several time attacks on a local track that measures just less than i mile. no issues.. but again, cant datalog..

i will be going to little talladega july 25.

if someone wants to lend me a datalogger i will get the info..

seems i cant get my usb to serial adapter to work with either of my laptops.. xp or vista..

Water pump, great product.

On road I dont see any improvments but on track its shows, temp. is low all the time. atleast here in sweden.

As far as instructions go; I've tried not to offer products that are very complex and don't want to encourage first timers to attempt installation of RE-medy goods. If it's not straightforward to the user I would much rather they seek the help of someone familiar. Again, that's why I specialize in direct replacement parts. Just like we don't all need to be surgeons or chefs, we don't all need to be mechanics. Maybe I'm wrong.

i purchase both thermostat and water pump.

before the install at 75F:
in a stop and go traffic i could see 208F water temperature in about 10 minutes.
in open air i saw from 179-183F

after the install at 100F:
in a stop and go traffic i could see 190F water temperature in about 25 minutes.
in open air i saw from 168-170F

the most impressive of all even when i see 190F when i start moving it goes down to 170 very quick(less than 20 seconds<<here in cyprus we have high humidity so it should help>>).

and this is before i installed the BHR radiator and AP is coming soon so it should be even sweeter.

I have a review on my blog after an entire DIY on how to install all 3 products. I'll give a bit of a different version here with some numbers.

No install problems, though I was looking at the fins of the radiator and just wondering what the heck do I do if even one fin is slightly touched, and can't find any info on here (wrong keywords?) on how to fix it if I were to...regardless..

Radiator, Waterpump and Thermostat serve their purpose and well. The temps stay very stable, not super low (probably would go lower if I went 60/40 or something) but low and stable enough to be satisfied. What concerned me at first was the temp spikes. Seeing temp on the highway of mid 170's suddenly spike to 208 as I was getting off the highway was scarey as I had no idea what was going on.

Honestly, because of the random spikes, I don't use my AP as often because I just get weirded out seeing temps go high then low then high again, where as my OEM setup, it slowly went up, then slowly went down, regardless if I was romping on it or not. The problem I was seeing with my OEM setup was simply that after a few runs at autocross, the engine was insanely hot and could hardly cool down.

So.. now after autocross runs, it cools down quicker even with the hood closed, it stays at a consistent decent temp, so I don't have to worry when I run with a co-driver on a very hot day.

All in all, I'm very happy with the products. I'd like to see some sort of instructions with them next time like NYCGPS said, just because I'd like instructions from the manufacturer and not just a DIYer (because if I install it wrong.. I can go back to the factory and say I followed your stuff... following a DIYer holds no water)

Some recommendations on coolant to run for the RX8 with this setup, a recommendation on how to upkeep your radiator fins or a tool? Those would be great. And of course, some sort of document saying "it's okay to see these temperatures and see them cool fast and then rise fast", just because boy was I paranoid at first...because I had no numbers of anything to compare to.

We don't have the heat of the southwest here in RI, but almost half my 8's run-time in the winter ends up being idle during warmup. If the upgraded thermostat extends that even further, I am not sure how useful it will actually be for me.

And here is a pic from the install day that made it clear how much better the pump is designed over OEM

I recommend not warming up at idle very long (Stationary) in winter and even with the 5W30 and 10W40 oils that I recommend. This is because the car will warm up faster under mild load and therefore not remain in fuel enrichment mode longer than necessary. Unless you must enter a highway or equivalent 2 miles or less from the home you may be causing great cabon buildup internally.

If I understood your statement properly.

did not do the install. i did the first radiator on jackstands, and swore i would never do it again..

there was a mention of a slight issue with one of the upper brackets i think i recall..

I dont remember exactly what it was like, it was a minor thing. I did something and I installed the Radiator.

damn my brain is not functioning well ...

need some sleep ...

for the record, I did all my radiator swap on jackstands ..

There were several of us at BHR which did a mini group order of water pumps from Paul a little over a year ago. It was a breeze to install with the only issue being me spilling coolant all over myself! Shipping was quick and painless.

The pump made noticable changes in water temperatures and coolant behavior. I had the opportunity to run the pump at a local time attack event where ambient temperatures were 105 with the track eaily being 130 degrees. I was running the koyo radiator at the time as well. While I did experience some high temperatures (almost 240 degrees) I was able to shed the heat quickly after a couple easy laps. I wish I could say as much about my oil temps!

The pump aids with warm up providing quick coolant warming to get the motor up to temperature. I've also noticed going back to my stock crank pulley from the Agency Power pulley was good for about 10 degrees of cooling at the top end!

While the pump is only one piece of the cooling puzzle, it's one I'd suggest. Great product Paul!

Took these pics cruising down the freeway today. With out the waterpump and thermostat I would not have these low temps.
Note the clock and the coolant temp. Same speed 75mph. Level road.
It kept going down to 190 degrees. But what I wanted to show you is the temps go down a couple degrees every minute. It was at 214 as I was entering the freeway.

I was also an early adopter on the water pump. It cured 95% of the marbles in a blender sound that I had before which means it's probably reducing cavitation, it's job in the first place. I don't have temperature gauges monitoring my coolant though so I cannot comment on its efficiency other than that the engineer in me knows if cavitation is reduced cooling is increased.

I will say; sometimes a higher coolant temperature might actually be a good thing as coolant is a heat transfer medium (technically it doesn't cool). It's job is to whisk heat away from the housings to the radiator. Having low coolant temperatures will do you no good if your housing is cooking.

However, the reports of spikes from the radiators have me kind of worried. Generally crazy random heat spikes tend to be from air bubbles. It might be good to investigate on that front.

Oh yeah, and as someone that would've liked instructions as well for the water pump, I'll offer to make instructions for you Paul. You can even pay me in parts!

Yes I'm in Boston at the moment. I just bought Astral's Cobalt Friction pads today. If you want we can set up a time to hang out. Generally though, weeknights are better as I tend to leave the area on weekends.

Does the temperatures still spike? Do they spike when you're just normally driving or when you're getting on it?
