Reliability + Power
Morninig all,
Recently i took my 8 in for a CEL problem, and it turned out to be my CAI.. Mazdaspeed CAI none the less, they're trying to figure out what mazda wants to do with this and i've been waiting a while. Been driving with the stock engine lately and it's so damn quiet, i liked the honk of the CAI even if it wasn't the best one. but apparently the censors that were built in weren't catching the speed of the air therefore tweaking with the gas/air mixture in a bad way causing hesitation and such. But mazda MAY refund me a little bit of $$ for that (it was installed as a perk when i bought it) It's a 2008 RX-8 GT 6MT. Was wondering.... I was looking at some of the exhausts, and it seems like B&B has the most power.. No sound clips, but I'm sure it sounds louder than stock.
I'm looking for mainly power increases, and I was wondering.. If I put a turbo on it (probably Greddy) will it reduce the engine reliability by quite abit, and void warranty? The 8 isn't WAY too under powered but it could use a little more of a kick, and I always wanted a turbo but, it's my only car and i wouldn't want to destroy the engine any faster than i have to, so i was thinking of just good CAI/Exhaust.. I'd like some opinions on this though: CAI+Exhaust+other N/A HP upgrades, or a turbo+exhaust? Thanks all!

I wonder if there are any noob questions you didn't ask in this one post of yours...
The B&B exhaust isn't going to give you more gains than any other exhaust. They are not power adders. Neither are intakes.
The greddy turbo will give you power and torque, but engine longevity can not be assured since even in stock form people have issues. Also the greddy kit's fuel management is not stable enough that I would recommend it. You would want to switch to the accessport or interceptor-x instead.
there's a lot more to it, but I assume you're capable of searching through the forums to find out more on your own.

exhausts and intakes aren't power "adders" per-se.. But they DO increase your HP, no? and thanks for the info on Turbos, I just went for Greddy because i hear it mentioned so very often... And yeah, they're all newb questions, because i AM a newb But you don't get anywhere in life without asking them... glad you responded so quickly But why on the exhaust compilation thread does it show different exhausts with different +hp gains?

^^^ You forgot one mysql
Yes any kind of modification that will give you a major increase in horse power will void your warranty. IE) Turbo, SC, Nitrous.
If you put on all the N/A mods available such as CAI, Exhaut, MidPipe, Tune ECU (Cobb AP by MM), lightened flywheel, upgraded coils, etc
I would bet you might MIGHT I say get 225 hp on a dyno jet

would i be better off getting any upgrades installed at the dealer, or should i go to the tuning garage next door? in terms of warranty and such.. i haven't read it in detail, but if it's stated in there just yell at me to get off my lazy **** and read it I saw a thread with exoticsport? exhaust. Looked really good.. and i Live in canada so shipping wouldn't be too much of a pain in the butt.. I have like $12k just sitting in my bank and i'd like my car to last while.. but 220hp dyno'd still sounds great.. and yeah, interceptor sounds great just read the whole thread... +15-20 hp at higher rev levels.. sweet deal just kinda far away :\..

Would one of you fine gentleman point me to the post with the dyno on it. I do try and keep up to the threads but I've not heard such claims ever for an NA.
This is honestly the first.
This excites me because I run NA with RB Flywheel, Cobb AP MM NA 1_3b tune, RB Cold Air and Ram Air, Under drive pulleys.
When I first bought the car I dyno'd at 177 rwhp stock. You mean I might actually be over 200 rwhp!!!! DAMN!!! That's awesome.
Furthermore I'm looking into a mid pipe and Cat Back so that might push me up to 220+ rwhp?
Then I turn on the juice for a 55 shot (hopefully 75 soon then maybe 100)
Honestly I'm stoked!
Link me to that thread, pretty plz

FYI - my mazda tech recently told me they were actually supposed to be coming out with a new flash related to the Mazdaspeed CAI. Something to do with them causing the engine to run too lean by Mazda standards.
In the U.S. they technically can't void your warranty for aftermarket parts unless it can be proven that the part caused the problem. However, many dealers apparently will try to void it even without that proof. Not sure what the law is like in Canada. Mazdaspeed mods done by the dealer will generally be warranty-safe, although sometimes they will often not carry as long of a warranty as the car. For example, my Mazdaspeed exhaust only had a 12 month warranty. When I took for something else, I asked them about the rust that was forming on the tips. Because it had been 13 months since I purchased it, Mazdaspeed wouldn't cover the rust, despite my service manager's multiple attempts to talk to them about it.
I can't really complain, as I didn't think to bring it in before the 12 month mark. But just telling you so that you know that mazdaspeed parts may not have the full warranty length of your car. I think most of them do if you get them installed at the time you buy the vehicle, but they have several different warranty structures for their different parts.

But .. ah you are right master I will search...
It took but 5 minutes and when I nailed the right string of words, it was the first post.
Here is the search I put in to google for those interested:
site: rx8club.com dyno 222 RWHP
Here is the thread: (Its post #414)

yeah, i've had my car about 5 months... bought it brand new :P it is still under warranty, and the dealership told me that after they hear from mazdaspeed, they'll make a decision. if they can't find a hotfix for the sensors (or i SUPPOSE lessen the diameter of the piping to slow the amount of incoming air) then they will refund some $$, which i would throw towards either B&B or exotic speed exhaust.. But i'll need to read up on my warranty before i go ahead with either. if they can fix it then they will probably just re-install a new one for me.. no one would happen to have a good quality sound clip of exotic speed exhaust would they? i've heard B&B, and it sounds great, but i love the look of the ES, AND it's made here in canada so either way, i hope to god that the canadian warranty is the same as down south, because i want some lovely rotary exhaust notes
