Short version, it is a regular turbo set up, with the turbo itself located in the exhaust area (usually in place of a muffler). The biggest pro is easy and much less expensive than a normal turbo set up. Downside is less potential boost.

For the 8 you have to make your own. As a matter of fact I am unaware of any company the makes a kit for a remote turbo. But like I said, they are not all that hard to do. And Rotorocks has offered his services in building another one, he made his from scratch.

I was contacted by "STS Turbos" to be a tester for the design of the RX-8 model.
That was in June of 2005, so I don't think development is going well.......

i would be glad to show him your work....because of your installations i have won a 4 trophies in 4 car shows so far.....and i have been through quite a few bottles with no issues....im going to see chuck soon to re-do my guages and add another bottle for longevity
