Why not just remove the belt and reduce the engine load by the factor of the drag(pulley wheel). Removing the belt won't win any races, the 8 is a dog off the line any way, but it will increase the drive ability of the 8. Maybe a smige of gas savings, may be a tad quicker to speed.
