Exclamation Resonator Removal???

I'd like to give my 8 a little throatier exhaust tone so I am considering removing ONLY the standard resonator and replacing it with a piece of stainless straight pipe while leaving the factory cat and muffler in place. I've read that the factory exhaust system is already well designed for flow and since the catbacks I've seen wont produce a big power increase, I have a hard time paying the big $ they command for a slightly better exhaust note! I've searched for other threads to see if anyone else has tried this idea, but come up empty. Has anyone had success doing this, and if so, just how dramatic was the increase in tone? I also wonder if (because of the resonator's location below the cabin!) removal would create too much noise inside the car!?!

I haven't heard of anyone doing that, but I can imagine it would surely be louder...

Canzoomer sells a replacement mid-pipe (with both cat and resonator) and it is a bit louder than stock. So, I figure if you lop the resonator out of your oem mid-pipe your going to get an increase in decibals... :o

Throatier comes from the CAT back exhaust muffler design, not removing the resonator, but it might be worth the experiment.

I agree, if you want a deeper, "throatier" sound then removing the resonator will not do this for you. Believe it or not a resonator is designed to do just that. Changing the muffler or catback exhaust will give you what your looking for. Just removing the stock resonator will only increase the volume of the exhuast note.
